Hi guys, been reading the forums for a while now, so thanks for all the tips so far.
I'm still just on the beginners layer-by-layer method but with two look OLL. I think it was Badmephistos method on YouTube i originally learnt. I'm down to a 12 average of 1min with CalCubeTimer, how far should i go with this method before i learn more Algs?
I originally wanted to get a solve in a minute but now i've got that i want 30 secs, its turned into an addiction lol.
Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated, Rob.

I'm at ~30-35 sec. average with beginner (2-look LL). I'm working on fridrich right now.

On Topic: you can go as far as you want before switching. some of the greatest cubers have stuck with the same method for their whole career. If you want to get down to 30 sec. though, I recommend switching.

2 look LL is full OLL and full PLL, also known as full fridrich (assuming you know F2L)... 4LLL is 2 look oll and 2 look pll which is what badmephisto teaches in his beginner videos... which one did you mean?

And first, I would learn intuitive F2L... the super basic way is just 3 cases.

oops sorry. I use 4LLL.

But either way, the steps to super basic intuitive f2l are

1)Get your corner and its edge on the top layer

2)a)if white is on top on the corner piece, line up the edge the way you would in a layer-by-layer solve, then move it down, away from where it should go, and move the corner on topof it, then revert and insert

b)If the white on the corner is not on the top, and the top colors of the 2 pieces are different, simply line them up so that you can do RUR' or F'U'F to align and insert them.

c)If the white on the corner is not on top and the colors are the same, bury the corner with the white facing you by adjusting the U face and doing an R or an F' , then move the edge next to where the corner is buried, then revert the burial and insert.

3)That is what you do after the cross is solved.

4)Break the pieces up, and get them both in the top layer, then decide which case you have of the three.

5)use youtube;)

my best time for the begginer's method is 1 minute 21 sec.
my best time doing the first 2 layers first then the final layer the begginers way is 53 sec.

Learn intuitive F2L, I actually started learning intuitive F2L when I had ~45 second average... average of 5 with beginners is 38 seconds (just timed it).

I started learning intuitive F2L at 32 second average, PB of 24 using beginners method, no PLL/OLL. I learned 2 look PLL, didn't need to do OLL, I could get it there anyway. Now I know full PLL, and 2 look OLL, some other OLL's, not many, and my PB is 17.39. Average now is under 30, maybe 28, unless a g-perm shows up. Then I get like a 35 second solve... hate g-perms...

People worry to much about times, you just have to want something new, and when you do, you go learn some fingertricks, algs or an advanced/different method.

I can get 25 avg with Dan Brown's method now. I average 13 with CFOP though but I remember that I got to 30 seconds with LBL with a 4-LLL(EO->CP->CO->EP).

My tip is not to rush everything. Just take it slow and make sure you got it before you move on.

First try 3 hours! Now three weeks later my pb is 1.59, but I wonder if i will get faster. I guess I'm using the beginners method, but I'm not sure of all the names, still have look into that a bit more.

I think about 90 seconds? I started learning Fridrich as soon as I found out about it which was only a few days after I started cubing and I haven't used the Beginner's method since. I bet I could get a minute with it now if I tried again.

I started working on the intuitive F2L last night. I went for broke on my LBL times tonight since I've been using that forever and trying to hit sub-60. My times were okay to start off with, got a little better, a little worse, had one bad mistake throw a crappy time.

Then out of nowhere - a 55.84. When I hit the spacebar to stop the timer on Jtimer and looked up at the screen, I almost fell off the couch.

My times from tonight, using layer-by-layer beginner method:

Average: 1:16.82

Fastest Time: 55.84 Slowest Time: 1:46.89 Standard Deviation: 06.60

Individual Times: 1:12.66 1:21.42 1:27.67 1:13.33 1:06.77 1:12.44
1:15.77 (1:46.89) 1:22.83 1:23.34 (55.84) 1:11.94

I have got sub 60 with Leyan's Beginner Solution. There is only 9 algoritms,
5 for F2L and 4 for LL.

5: 00:54.25 x
4: 01:09.31 x
3: 01:06.44 x
2: 00:53.99 x
1: 00:55.70 x
Average: 00:59.94 Best: 00:53.99

Now I have been learning 4-look LL for ~2 weeks and my best average of 12 is 56.47
