Sorry about your two DNFs on Magic - it looks like you had some great times! And congrats on your second place in both 4x4x4 and 5x5x5. I'm sure you wanted first, but coming in second to Dan Cohen is still pretty good.

I see Daniel Beyer didn't make it, and they didn't have the big cubes BLD. That's too bad - I was hoping to see some good results there with those. On the multi-blindfolded results, it looks like they didn't enter Rowe's correctly - it just reads "2" instead of "2/7". In fact, it looks like they entered all of them wrong, because the people who got "0" instead of "0/2" or whatever are listed too high in the overall rankings.

It was a pretty bad competition day for me all around; I couldn't find the solutions to the easy 2x2 cases and just was nervous about the whole thing. Overall, it was a fun competition, but aside from the 4x4x4, my results were rather disappointing.

Yeah, I noticed that, and they seemed to have ignored some +2's as well...

Well I appreciate that perception of my skills, Mike. I ended up having a pretty good day, except for magics, and the 3x3 was ok. My first solve of the 4x4 was a POP that took 20 seconds off my time (according to the video). I just used Rama's Killer Instinct for the 5x5 and got some great times. Daniel Beyer didn't make it and Rowe had car trouble. He didn't make it until the 2x2 started after lunch. The multi-bld thing is probably going to be fixed... too bad for me. All in all it was a great competition with an even better turnout.

Thanks to Tim for putting it all together.

Exo, I was wondering about that 4x4x4 result - it was like you suddenly lost your 5x5x5 bias. That part was probably pretty nice, but I figured you were also pretty disappointed with your 5x5x5 results.

When you say they ignored some +2's, what do you mean? Do you mean they didn't penalize people's time, or do you mean they DNF'ed some that should have just been +2?

Dan, besting Jon is a pretty great achievement itself. It's a pity he didn't have a good day on the 5x5x5 - it would have been a really tight competition if he had, I'm sure.

On the multi-blindfolded results, it looks like they didn't enter Rowe's correctly - it just reads "2" instead of "2/7". In fact, it looks like they entered all of them wrong, because the people who got "0" instead of "0/2" or whatever are listed too high in the overall rankings.
Yes, indeed there was a mistake in the results I received.
Stefan Pochmann and I designed a nice way to translate each result of multiple blindfolded into a number, so that sorting by that number the order would be the same as the WCA regulations.
The problem is that for that to work success=0 and failure=1. In this case the results file I received said 0, so the database assumes it was a successful solve.
It should be correct now. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Have fun,

Ron
PS: for those who are interested, the format is abbccddddd.
a: success=0, failure=1
b: 99 - # solved
c: # tried
d: number of seconds
So 1970703098 was Rowe's result and not 970703098. :-)

What about the 4x4x4? They were some easy center cases followed by smooth edge pairings. I did practice 4x4x4 almost exclusively last week, though... That event was probably the only positive part of the day, aside from the 17s single solve. ;)

I remember getting some +2's that don't reflect on the database. That may have resulted from the judge neglecting to ask for my initials on the card. I figure if it happened to me, it must have happened to other people as well.

Yeah, i was never asked for my signature........ Whatever.
The only mistake that i saw was when i had a 31.41 (Pi) they gave me a 31.99.
I'm relatively happy about my magic and master magic times even though i wish i could have gotten some of my sub 2.5s on master. I hope I improve after getting my master magic strung backwards. I think ill also start working on magic more.
Too bad about your DNF's Jon!!!
Great competition anyway :).

Yeah... there was also a problem with one 2x2 solve. The one kid who got a 4.72 accidentally stopped the timer but I guess no one caught it. I was informed of this by another person so I can't vouch for this. His average was 17 seconds and when he was done said, "Wait that was 4 seconds?". The judges did make a couple of mistakes, another one being counting a +2 as a DNF. O, and both of my Pyraminx +2s counted...

I remember that one judge (the youngest one) gave a -2 penalty instead of +2 :D. Fortunately Tim caught the mistake, but for future competitions, perhaps there should be an age limit for judges.

I was really just referring to your normally doing so much better at 5x5x5 than at 4x4x4.

Still 2nd place either way, haha.

I noticed that too. I told either him or another young one that he had to cover my cube... So he ran up to the scrambling table to grab a cube cover. >.<
I think the judges could use a little more training, but at least they tried.

Sam: The WCA results show a 31.41 for your second 3x3 solve in the first round. Is that what you're talking about?

Ron: Ah, sorry about the 0/1 issue. I misread the scoresheet.

i mixed up my rounds *embarrassed smiley*. Sorry Tim.
Does anyone know if Bob is going to host a competition within the next couple months? Or any others on the east cost aside from VA/FL ones?
