Petrus LL variations?

Petrus solvers,

What are you using for your LL: 2-look LL, 3-look LL, this "perfect enough" system Lars talks about here (http://lar5.com/cube/270/index.html) or something different? And what do you like about your LL method?

I tried to parse Lars's "advanced last layer" page but didn't get it. The pattern recognition for a "one look" system seems really difficult. And figuring out "on-the-fly" how to combine algorithms which both orient and position cubies seems impossible - is that how Petrus experts roll?

In the meantime I'm learning Fridrich 2-look LL which is going OK for me, I'm close to 30 seconds. I just want to know that I'm not wasting my time...

It's not too bad.

Lars' idea is to memorize a combination for each case, not to figure it out every time.

Don't focus on LL if you're at 30s. The difference between different 2-looks and 1-look when executed well is a couple of seconds at most. Just learn to do whatever you're doing now better.

Cool, yeah don't get me wrong, I'm putting a lot of effort into steps 1-4 and getting them faster at the same time. Right now my F2L is ~20 seconds, which is down a lot from last year (it used to take me 20 seconds just for the 2x2x3)

It sounds like you're an advocate Lars' "One Look" system then?

Umm no, I'm not. Using combinations of short algs when it's (almost as good as) optimal is a good idea, but I wouldn't recommend learning to do all LL cases that way.

It's never a bad idea to study something new, but not to the exclusion of the basics.

Tip for the OP: Johannes and Erik are two of the fastest Petrus solvers in the world. Listen to them.

Thanks - I appreciate the input everyone's given me in this thread. A lot more Petrus solvers use 1-look OLL and 1-look PLL than I thought. I'll focus more on my F2L and execution speed for now and maybe consider a more efficient LL approach if/when I break 20s.
