he's been constantly praying that this 'distraction' of mine goes away
He says that cubing can't be my entire life (does he actually think it is?)
Distraction from what? (Also, just curious: is he Hindu, Christian, Muslim... (because you mentioned praying))
What would make him think that cubing is your entire life??

Nah me and my family are Christian
I think that you may be able to convince him using these Bible verses:
Colossians 3:21
"Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged."
(Alternatively: "Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged.")

Ephesians 6:4
"Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord."
Ecclesiastes 3:12–13
"I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God."
1 Corinthians 10:31
"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God."
(Often brought up when people argue that hobbies or everyday activities don't have to make money to have value.)

Good luck!

(Also, HELLO FELLOW BELIEVER!)
