I was cubing as normal then my dad came into the room and asked me to hand over the cubes or else he'll throw them all into the bin and never buy anything for me again. My mum suggested I should keep on cubing for just one hour per day and then my dad went away saying that cubing is a waste of a hobby and it won't make you any money. That made me really sad and gave me a few bad solves

Conclusion: My dad hates cubing

same thing going on here rn, besides that pyra pr my mom keeps showing to everyone > : (
i have a few questions, what started your cubing, who motivated you, and what/who made you continue further?

does your dad not know about winning monkey league or podiuming at worlds? although it's not the reason we cube, it is possible to make money, and it's a perfectly enjoyable hobby. i don't know if you play football (i don't, i hate it), but i can't see how it's much different - you play football because it's fun, you can make a living from it but that's not why you do it, and it's a nice hobby - i think most dads would be a lot less likely to discourage their child from playing football, but it's basically the same deal. although, if he does disapprove of cubing, it's probably not the best idea to tell him about this post.

If cubing is interfering with your grades, housework, social life, etc., then I can understand your parents feelings, though they're definitely going about it the wrong way.

If it isn't... then I cannot understand the logic here. it is completely ridiculous to believe that a pastime has to have the potential to make money for it to have any value. Unproductive doesn't mean worthless, and it is wild to say otherwise. Time spent having fun is not wasted time.

If your parents are reasonable people, you should be able to sit them down, explain what the hobby means to you, and come to an agreement that involves you continuing to do it. If they are not reasonable people, then I don't know if I can help you.

Is cubinng coming at the expense of you're duties? (like school or chores?) If not then it's fine to do things in your free time. People do a lot of other things in their free time that isn't profitable (like watching TV).
I've won awards for my math, english, French and music bro and he somehow wants more? Like i have some of the highest grades in my entire year (consisting of about 180 people)
