The Battle of Wits and Whims II (Round 3 Announcement)

@AJT17 @Abram Grimsley @cubenerd74 @Idkcuber @K3n @BVCuber13 @acrystal @mdcuber9 @pi=3.14

Hello everyone! Thank you for your patience as I prepared benchmark times and scrambles. As I outlined in the previous post, this will be completed as a relay of three puzzles, which entails completing all three events in one timed attempt. The following spreadsheet shows what your events are along with your benchmark time:

For transparency regarding benchmarks, your benchmark was calculated from your WCA official averages. If you haven't competed officially or didn't feel comfortable sharing your WCA ID, I used your speedsolving.com results. If you didn't have an official or speedsolving.com average but still had an official single, I used that time instead.

Remember, this round is judged based on how close you are to the benchmark, either above or below! Please direct message me your times—don’t post them in this thread. With this announcement, round 2 has officially begun. Results will be due in five days on Monday, August 24th at 12:00 PM (EST). Best of luck to everyone! Below are the scrambles for this round.

Hello everyone! It's time to announce the results for round 2! This round was insanely close, and overall, everyone performed really well in matching their target times.

But alas, this is a battle royale (not fork knife), and unfortunately, our reigning champion, @AJT17 has been eliminated by an extremely close margin of ~0.29% from the 8th place recipient. @AJT17 had the shortest amount of time in his benchmark, and although he was very close, each second counted much more. He still remains champion of the OG Battle of Wits and Whims, and thereby, is an OG himself.

The top positions were also marginally different, and it was truly a close call. But in the end, @cubenerd74 was closest to the benchmark time, and as the winner, will receive an advantage in round 3! Remember, the results are based on percent distance from the target time, regardless of being above or below the benchmark.

As we progress further into the competition, things are gonna start getting a whole lot wackier. As I design round 3, I can assure you that this will be a challenging round which requires utmost poise and wit.

Stay tuned for the round 3 announcement! I'll be moving to a new state in a few days to begin my PhD, so I will be quite busy. I may be slower over the coming week in making announcements, and I appreciate your patience!

Round 3 Announcement

Hello everyone!

I decided that since I'll be very busy next week, I'd release the details of round 3 today so we can get started! Eight of you currently remain, and by the end of this round, two of you will be eliminated and six will make it to round 4.

Now without further ado, here are the guidelines. Buckle up and prepare for a crazy round.

You will all be divided into two groups of four competitors. As previously mentioned, @cubenerd74 will have an advantage for winning round 2. This is a very big advantage, because @cubenerd74 will decide who is in what group! All competitors will complete an average of 5 (Ao5) on a randomly generated event which all competitors can complete, so no 6x6 or 7x7 in this round.

I will average the Ao5s from each group, and whichever group has a faster AoAo5 (Average of Ao5; I invented that by myself) is safe from elimination! Unfortunately, the competitors who complete the two fastest averages within the other group will be eliminated. So it's up to you how you'll proceed. Will you throw the average to play safe? Do you feel confident that your team will win? These decisions are all up to you!

The randomly selected event is:

MEGAMINX!!

That's a great one! In fact, Megaminx is my favorite event to practice besides clock. I hope you all love Megaminx as well! If you don't, I feel honored to provide you a mandatory practice session.

Please don't discuss scrambles (not that it matters too much for Megaminx), and individually direct message me your times as usual! This round is especially important for keeping your times a secret, because competitors within your own group might use that against your interests.

Now, it's up to @cubenerd74 to decide the two groups of four competitors in any combination you desire. Your pool consists of:

1. @cubenerd74
2. @Abram Grimsley
3. @K3n
4. @mdcuber9
5. @BVCuber13
6. @pi=3.14
7. @acrystal
8. @Idkcuber

Once you decide the two groups, I will send out scrambles and the round will officially begin! You may post your group decisions in this thread.

-Respectfully,
Clock_Enthusiast

If everyone DNFs all their solves, how would they be ranked?

I'm asking this because DNFing every solve seems to guarantee survival.

This is a scenario that is extremely unlikely, but it still is a scenario. With that, I'm going to make a small adjustment/clarification (which will also be added to the official round announcement) to prevent this from occurring. Give me a day or so to create a new condition around DNFing and how this would affect the ranking system, in the case that competitors intentionally or inadvertently DNF.
