Hello everyone,

I’d like to sincerely apologize for my absence and for failing to provide an update on The Battle of Witts and Whims’s final round. I have been logged off from speedsolving.com throughout a rather chaotic transitionary chapter in my life, as this round coincided with moving, finalizing projects at my last job, working on manuscripts for papers, and preparing to start my PhD. However, this isn’t an excuse for the lack of updates; it’s just an explanation for my long absence. I know that multiple people, especially our finalists, have been awaiting results for this round, and I guarantee that results will be posted today, as I’ve already calculated them and prepared a concluding post.

Again, I’m very sorry for such an unprecedented hiatus. I’m very grateful for your patience, and in addition to these results, I will resume preparation for the second competition of this series, The Battle of Witts and Whims II!

Yours truly,
Clock_Enthusiast

FINAL RESULTS

Hello everyone,

The time has officially come to announce the long-overdue winner of The Battle of Wits and Whims! Thank you all for your patience during my long hiatus from running this competition, and I’m thrilled that we saw this through to the end.

All competitors worked through a series of complex challenges throughout every round with fortitude and grace, but in the end, there can only be one champion. I am very pleased to announce that our champion is….

@AJT17 !!!

Congratulations on emerging victorious among this group of talented cubers. I’d also like to recognize the other podiuming competitors:

Third place (from semifinals): @Abram-Grimsley

At some point, I’d like to make custom certificates for all three of you. You can even put this on your CV (probably not actually)!

Thank you very much for all of your time, and for making this competition so enjoyable to host. I’ll be hosting another competition in this style, The Battle of Wits and Whims II! So please feel free to register for that competition as well while spots are available.

Breakdown of final results:

Target time: 3:37.71

Relay result: 3:30.02

Percent away from target: 3.54% below target

Target time: 4:03.27

Relay result: 5:25.07 - 45 seconds (two puzzles OH) = 4:40.27 – 9 seconds BLD inspection (fitting this in was more complex, so I agreed to subtract this time from @bldsolver314’s self-reported memo performed during the relay itself) = 4:31.07

Percent off from target: 10.26% above target

Thank you! Congrats on second place!

This was a super fun competition, and I'm really happy that I was able to come back and win it after getting eliminated early on. Thanks for hosting this, @Clock_Enthusiast, and I look forward to competing in the second competition!
