I have a new idea
THE IDEA
I will be calling this 3MPLL (3 Move Pair Last Layer)
Here’s what it will be like for CFOP users
step 1: solve cross+3 pairs
step 2: solve EO
step 3: form a 3 mover for your last pair
step 4: solve the pair and the entire last layer in one step

I know what you’re thinking
It seems inefficient compared to solving OLL+PLL or ZBLS+ZBLL right? But that’s because this method was designed as a substep for APB. In APB, you already solve EO before even solving F2L, which turns the 4 step LL into a 3 step LL. I’ve also observed that most F2L pairs will always have you forming a 3/4 mover as part of the F2L alg, which is where I also got inspiration for this method. The problems I can see right now though is that the alg count might be way too high. Take this with a grain of salt though because I don’t know if this last layer method exists.

I think its at max 3984, maybe the alg count is around few hundred less, because 493 (usual ZBLL count, including PLL) * 4 (ZBLL AUF) 2 (2 possible 3-4 move pairs with EO solved) = 3984 (alg count is <3984 because of ZBLL symmetries).

The whole premise is good, but the idea of a best 3x3 method is a far reaching one, as there will always be a consequence of which one criteria that the current speedcubing methods has is checked while others don’t (ergonomics, rotationless, TPS, algorithmic)

I believe with the state of cubing now, just about all of possible best candidates has been exhausted, so maybe instead of thinking of creating a new best method, we should create a method that answer one or two problem.

I happen to hate doing the F & B move more than any other, and so I incorporated a variant of the Lau method that has no F & B and no rotations in every step but of course at the cost of higher move count. How about others? What are perhaps certain things you find awkward or want to eliminate in solving, then maybe try to find a solution to never have that in your solves.

Wouldnt that mean basically just EO+Lau?

No, EO would require you to do F moves at the start of the solve, partial eo like that of petrus also

The EO part of it is meant to be the only step that would have you done F moves, meaning to say it didn’t eliminate it, in the entirety of the solve
Well i dont any problems with F moves, and i think many cubers would agree
Maybe I'd remove D & B, but D can be important sometimes

It was an example of something “one hates” and want to avoid, mine I just hate F & B moves, irrespective of other cubers, so I made another variant that doesn’t have any and no rotations required

I don’t remove D, I like D moves, it’s smooth

Yeah i agree. But that brings me the idea that depending on the PERSON is what method is best for them

Pretty much, known methods was made because of that premise. Creating a new best method might not be a reachable goal as it assumes that the best has yet been made, but a method with specific purpose, criterion as a starting point would be a more fruitful and interesting discussion

Then we can make a method that attends to that and possibly best in that regard

True but off-topic (ik srry but i understand what you said), do u like S moves?

(No) it’s fine i guess
k cuz i made a method (and @Michael Wimberly fixed it a bit)
Its called Orcora Petrus where:
"[Solve 2 1x2x2 blocks on the left (one on the front and one on the back)]->[EO+LD edge]->[Solve 1x2x2 block on the right back (usnig SBT)]->[WV/SV]->[PLL]
the method gets to a few algs (with only a few F&S moves) and has a lot of R, U, & D moves

Explain what makes it different from other petrus variants so that it’s clear

uhh it has EO done before the 2x2x3 is solved and i think the block building is kinda efficient
You have more edges to EO with than normal petrus, just doing ZZ might have a better outcome

But it’s a good method, just not sure if it wasn’t made before or introduced in the early days of cubing

The LL can be simply just be “LL” as it’s really just any other step you wanna put in the LL, it can ve ZB, VHLL, or your specific recommendations such as WV/SV

Actually i made algs for all EO cases, and theres only a few
And its basically ur wish if u wanna do F2L->ZB instead of WV->PLL, I just find it better but again, you can decide
And thanks, I appreicate it that u like the method, especially from u
