Where is fairness?

I just thought of an idea:Make 4 pad mode a penalty for being caught using illegal timer stops on purpose. This stops normal solvers from the inconvenience of needing to use 4 pad unless they get caught sliding or similar. EX: If you get caught sliding you need to use 4 pad mode from then on at all WCA competitions you go to

He had like, 2 years to. I think he should get temp banned atp imo.
Bruh...why ban him??? What if there can be a 60 second penalty for sliding??? Gives us a chance to beat him...and to fix sliding for everyone, why not make a pressure plate for the cube???That makes it fair for everyone, and a bit more accurate...considering that we lose 0.1-2 seconds without the thingy idea I said...

Does anyone know yiheng’s mum’s WeChat acc? I found this yt comment on the vid that is allegedly pasted from yiheng’s mum’s WeChat acc (here is the comment)

text from yiheng mom's wechat:

So, there are a lot of things I don’t need to say—you’ll spill them yourselves.
What Yiheng has endured these years isn’t just bullying; it’s outright abuse! Who’s been swallowing their pride? When you formed cliques and did disgusting things, did I say a word?
I can’t run around throwing tantrums in public. I truly can’t do that. But it seems like people who throw fits always get their way.
Actually, before yesterday afternoon’s competition, I thought about quitting. If I walked out of the arena happy, someone was bound to be upset. Some people already couldn’t hold back.
What you can’t stand is Yiheng winning even one round. But does winning or losing matter that much? Yiheng stopped caring about this a long time ago. You don’t care about your own kids’ mental and physical health; you just attack other people’s kids to achieve your own goals. To be honest, this isn’t the first time. I’ve just chosen to ignore it all along.
Maybe you can’t understand why I pulled away without saying a word. Even in our last conversation, I was still telling you to rest well and go to bed early.
That’s because I know I can never be the kind of person you are. I can’t align myself with you or take your side. I just want to leave your group as quickly as possible.
Maybe you think I’ll badmouth you everywhere. But I’ve never said a single negative word about any of you to anyone. I’ve just deliberately stopped talking to you. For me, staying away from you means staying away from drama and chaos. But you seem to care about me a lot. The more I pull away, the more reckless you become!Ever since Yiheng’s time violation incident, reporting Yiheng has become a plaything for some people. But let me ask you: what does Yiheng’s 2x2 time violation have to do with someone who only solves 3x3? You keep holding up your cameras at the competition, deliberately taking photos of Yiheng, and it’s absolutely disgusting.
You’ve done so many things like this. Just because I don’t say it doesn’t mean I don’t know, okay?
Yiheng truly doesn’t care about winning or losing anymore. We spent months pulling ourselves out of the darkness. Now we just need to compete happily.
But during this time, the fact that both Yiheng and I are in such a good state must be upsetting to some people. I know that better than anyone. All of you want to see Yiheng listless like he was a while ago, and me helpless.
That gives you a sense of revengeful satisfaction. But what do you have to take revenge on me for?
What you don’t know is that the only reason I still have the strength to bring Yiheng to competitions and stay in a good state is that I’m relying on antidepressants. Someone who doesn’t even care about life or death—would they be afraid of your repeated attacks?
I’ve never asked anyone to take my side at any time. Even to my best friend, I told her, “Don’t speak up for me, and you don’t need to distance yourself from them. I know you care about me, and that’s enough.”
Can’t you see that I want nothing to do with you? Did my sudden withdrawal make you uncomfortable? You care far too much about me. But I really want nothing to do with you, okay? My upbringing and my moral bottom line make it impossible for me to be like you!

How many times have you ganged up on me? How many times have you incited fans to start fights? Many of them are even minors. You can ask those kids what I said when they came to me. I told them, “This is an adult matter. Stay out of it. You can’t fix it. If everyone agreed, there wouldn’t be a conflict. Just don’t say anything stupid.”
Yes, I received another email from WRC recently. I only had a guess about who reported me before, but now I don’t even need to guess—you admitted it yourselves.
But to all of you who love reporting every day: do you not know what you’re doing? I’ve already sent WRC all the possible issues with the 5th generation timer. I also received an email from WIC. Anyone who sends me an email must have reported me, but I’m not the least bit nervous. Did you never know that I sent Yiheng’s record-breaking video to WRC right after he finished it, before you could even find fault with it?
So you’ve gone to great lengths to stop Yiheng from competing. But Yiheng has been competing for so many years. I don’t know if he’s tired of it, but I am—completely.
You’ve completely lost your bottom line just to target me.
But will I ever be like you? No, because we’re simply not on the same level.
I thought everyone could see that clearly.
I don’t have time to deal with your endless reports. I will never understand how far people will go to win, no matter how unethical.
Xuanyi cried uncontrollably after losing several competitions. We even saw in multiple videos that Xuanyi had tics from stress. Every time there was a big lock, her arm would twitch involuntarily. We deliberately avoided Xuanyi not because we were scared, but because we didn’t want to put pressure on another child.
I really want to tell you: pay attention to your own kids’ mental and physical health. Hurting other people’s kids over and over again will never create a good growth environment for your own. Compared to Yiheng, Xuanyi doesn’t have a strong enough heart to handle even a little setback.
But you refuse to believe in anyone’s kindness. You see others as the kind of people you are. However, I have never done anything that violates my moral bottom line or principles.
You’ve used every possible trick against Yiheng. I can list them one by one. But as a mother, I know exactly what my son has gone through, and I don’t want any other child to experience it.
Or maybe they already have. I’m sure that feeling is terrible, right? Gan posted that article, and didn’t you all repost and like it?
“Do not do to others what you do not want done to yourself.” I’ve said this repeatedly on my WeChat Moments. But I have a clear conscience towards all of you, okay?
Besides, everyone, I have no fear. Do whatever you want. My perseverance and beliefs will never be destroyed by any of your actions.

I was mostly joking (should probably put in the /j next time)
Stuff like stopping the timer with my wrists and like barely tapping it to stop it.
i know a couple people like that (ahem, @Martyt7777)

A Detailed Account of the H2H Final Incident at Xi'an Cherry Blossom 2026

In the first attempt of the match, Yiheng got 3.83 and Xuanyi got 3.85. At this time, Xuanyi lost by 0.02s, but he was smiling.

In the second attempt, Yiheng triggered a 0.02 (suspected timer start malfunction/failure), and Xuanyi's 3.57 solve was cancelled. Both used an extra scramble. There was no argument at the scene at this time. Xuanyi definitely felt upset, but Xuanyi's dad did not make any statement.

Extra scramble: Yiheng got a DNF(4.12), and Xuanyi got 3.46. At this point, there was no controversy. Immediately following, Yiheng triggered a 0.04 (suspected timer start malfunction/failure), and at the same time, the delegate penalized him with a DNF for starting prematurely before "go". At this time, the match was interrupted. Yiheng's mom made a statement on the spot for about 3 minutes, roughly saying: others started the timer early without getting a DNF penalty, but Yiheng got a DNF. During these 3 minutes, Xuanyi was already getting a bit anxious on stage. 3 minutes later, both competitors signed the scorecards. We all thought the penalty was valid, and Xuanyi's dad did not make a statement at this time.

Immediately following, Yiheng got 3.85 and Xuanyi got 3.31. Both competitors signed the scorecards. Xuanyi thought the match was already over and showed a relieved smile. At this point, the delegate announced a provisional ruling. Xuanyi's dad started to speak up: "Isn't the match already over?" The delegate explained that there was a timer malfunction just now, so an extra scramble would be adopted, and they explained what an extra scramble is. Xuanyi's dad pointed out on the spot: Yiheng was sliding, and the timer malfunction was caused by his sliding stop. We have evidence and will release the video evidence later. Yiheng's mom replied: "Whatever."

The match continued anyway. In the next attempt, Xuanyi got a 5.21+2 and lost. At this point, Xuanyi couldn't hold it in anymore and started crying. Then Xuanyi's dad said: "Yiyi, don't cry, dad believes in you." Seeing Xuanyi's emotional change, the delegate explained about the provisional extra scramble and the ruling. This was very important for Xuanyi; he then understood that this was only an extra scramble for a provisional ruling.

Finally, Yiheng got 4.69 and Xuanyi got 4.15. The delegate provided an explanation once again.

Throughout the entire process, Xuanyi's mom was resting in the hotel due to a severe cold, but she watched the livestream the whole time, rushed to the venue, and filed an unfair appeal on Xuanyi's behalf. During the scrambling interval of Hansen and Zhaokun's match, Xuanyi's mom arrived at the venue and raised the questions: "Why do we have to continue with extra solves? Why are you bullying my son like this?" The on-site staff said: "Do you want your son's victory to carry controversy?" Xuanyi's dad said to Xuanyi's mom: "Others are still competing, let's talk about it after the match." After hearing this, Xuanyi's mom did not argue further, walked out of the venue doors, and under the persuasion of many friends, she lost control of her emotions and cried. (After the match, Xuanyi's mom sincerely apologized to Hansen, Zhaokun, and their parents.)

During Xuanyi's 4.32 average at Hangzhou Open 2024, after the community pointed out his non-standard timer stopping, even though the WCA did not issue any penalty, we and Xuanyi took this issue seriously and corrected it. At Xianju NxN 2025, where Xuanyi achieved a 4.26 PR average for 5 solves, after the match we discovered one instance of non-standard timer stopping, voluntarily contacted the delegate, and received a DNF penalty. The handful of extra scrambles Xuanyi has had over these years of competing is enough to demonstrate our attitude towards speedcubing. (The vast majority of extra scrambles were due to misscrambles.)

Finally, what we want to say is: when a child makes a mistake, parents should correctly guide and promptly correct them. We also feel that Yiheng has enough capability to cleanly take back the WR average, and at that time, we and Xuanyi will also offer our sincere congratulations.
wow, their parents are a lot more supportive than i thought
I just want to say that this feels like way too much drama and arguing over a toy. It’s not that serious guys. I just think Yiheng needs to come out with a public apology/confession first. Nothing we do will change Yiheng if he doesn’t accept what he’s doing and agree to change, not to us, but to himself. I know he might want to be competitive, and probably receives a lot of pressure from his parents to be the best. This is all probably really hard on him, which is why I think he’s doing this: because he’s nervous. I honestly think he shouldn’t be banned/suspended. Maybe a few results dnfed, but that’s it. I don’t think we should be knocking Yiheng down, but instead trying to encourage him to do the right thing, to come out and be better. He’s 12! He just needs to come free of whatever may be haunting him or causing this. And we need to help him with this.
I agree to a certain degree (intentional rhyme), but we need to remember that in China, cubing is almost a full-fledged sport. Yiheng’s sliding is almost the equivalent of a sprinter getting an illegal 0.7 second headstart in a 100 meter sprint and getting away with it with minimal consequences. For the rest of the cubing world, it may just seem like a toy that we solve fast, but if you are at a level like Xuanyi and Yiheng’s, you HAVE to treat it like a sport. Competitiveness is key to getting faster. But yes, nothing we talk about here will do anything. But rules are rules. If you violate a rule, you should get a consequence (which should be the +2/+4), but since Yiheng has been doing this for YEARS, he should atleast get a temp ban (maybe around 3 months). Banning him isn’t knocking him down (while it will probably seem that way to Yiheng’s mom), but teaching him that rules aren’t meant to be broken for a reason, and i think the WCA should emphasize that more. When I was 12, I was being taught about life. In a way, temp banning Yiheng would be a life lesson to him.
Theoretically, a pressure plate would do well but you’d have to figure out how to actually tell if the pressure plate has been lifted, also what about during inspection? The pressure plate would be moved way too much and you would still need video review anyway because of how many times the pressure plat gets pressed and lifted. I’ve said this a lot of times, but a temporary ban would show everyone that the rules the WCA implements are serious, and not just something you can play with. It would also be reasonable since Yiheng has been doing this frequently in the last like 2 years.

I just thought of an idea:Make 4 pad mode a penalty for being caught using illegal timer stops on purpose. This stops normal solvers from the inconvenience of needing to use 4 pad unless they get caught sliding or similar. EX: If you get caught sliding you need to use 4 pad mode from then on at all WCA competitions you go to
delegates would have to keep a record of who slid or not, also it’s hard to tell whether someone is sliding without frame-by-frame analysis, so that idea doesn’t work well by itself, but if you pair it with other things like frame-by-frame analysis and that “three-strikes” idea i had earlier in the thread, it works well.

i’m confused, who’s she supposed to be talking to? I assume she’s talking to Xuanyi’s parents. And in that part, i agree that Xuanyi’s parents shouldn’t have posted that on youtube. It should have been a private matter between them and the WRC.
You keep holding up your cameras at the competition, deliberately taking photos of Yiheng, and it’s absolutely disgusting.
I mean, she could ask them kindly to not take videos of her child if it bothers her that much (i’m assuming again it’s directed only towards Xuanyi’s parents)
How many times have you ganged up on me? How many times have you incited fans to start fights? Many of them are even minors. You can ask those kids what I said when they came to me. I feel like this is directed toward us now as well😭 It was probably meant to be a discussion but turned into an argument. If she’s reading this right now then i’ll assure her that this entire thing we’re talking about here is a discussion, we all know for a fact that nobody is gonna listen to us, because as a minor, i know very well that i am useless in the grand scheme of things.
I really want to tell you: pay attention to your own kids’ mental and physical health. Hurting other people’s kids over and over again will never create a good growth environment for your own. Compared to Yiheng, Xuanyi doesn’t have a strong enough heart to handle even a little setback.
Comparing your child to another child is a bit under the belt there💀
But as a mother, I know exactly what my son has gone through, and I don’t want any other child to experience it.
Or maybe they already have. I’m sure that feeling is terrible, right?
if she’s talking about getting scolded and the child feeling a sense of despair then yes that feeling is terrible (speaking from experience😭💀)

I don’t know what Yiheng and his mom has been going through, but I think some comments were under the belt. The wechat comment should have been in private though instead of revealing it to the entire world. It’s making Yiheng’s mom look like the offender trying to defend herself. I’m sure she has reasons for that anger, i mean if i had a son and some other parents posted videos of him “cheating” I would get pretty mad too because, why would you have to post it on the internet where EVERYONE can see it?

anyway, this is getting too far, i hope people stay out of it and not post conversations on the internet until everything is settled

OK, let's clear up some misinformation:

At least part of the reason the WCA has avoided switching to 4-pad mode is that that feature is patented by Speedstacks. Switching to that would lock the WCA into using Speedstacks equipment, which they have expressed interest in getting away from (i.e. Allowing other timers). There is no exclusivity contract. You'll hear others say it would be expensive to have some areas upgrade their equipment. The WCA has financial support for exactly that and that should not be an issue. The vast majority of competitions already use gen5 timers.

Secondly, there are absolutely other options beyond 4-pad mode to prevent sliding. For example, you could put the timer on the far side of the mat instead of near so the cube is between you and the timer instead of vice versa. Or use a raised platform for the cube. And on and on and on.

Finally, speaking as myself and not as a delegate, I have long advocated that Yiheng should get a ban for cheating. Yeah, he's just 12 years old but he's been competing for *8* years. He knows the rules. And his parents and coaches know the rules, too. Cheating is cheating. Look up Danny Almonte and Little League baseball.

The worst thing here is that yiheng is genuinely talented at cubing and shouldn't realistically have a reason to cheat at all.

That's the troubling part, in my opinion.
