I had an idea to be able to try to figure how vulnerable an SR/NR/CR is to people who want to try to get records easier. It basically shows how good each SR is compared to each other using the WR as a base line.

This is how it works: Divide all your SRs by the WR. So, for example, let’s say for your state, the SRs for 2x2, 3x3, and 4x4 are 5, 10, and 30 seconds. If you divide those times by the WR, you get 11.9x times slower, 3.3x times slower, and 1.9x times slower. Then you take those and divide them by the lowest number. So 11.9/1.9, 3.3/1.9, and 1.9/1.9; which would end up being 6.3, 1.7, and 1. Whatever number is the highest is the most vulnerable! (So in this case 2x2!)

I know this isn’t the most insane thing anyone’s ever thought of, but I thought it was cool enough to be worth sharing! Also, I’m very bad at wording things, so please ask questions if you don’t understand my wording!

That's equivalent to checking which event has the lowest Kinch score. Basically you reciprocate every event's Kinch and normalize. I guess it works decently well, but it does have some issues. For example, FMC naturally gets a boost in Kinch score since it is quite easy to get to ~30 with just CFOP, NISS and basic comms, so if the NR/SR mean is like 35, it could be one of the easier SR/NRs to beat, despite a 6.98 3x3 average being 'easier' to beat according to this statistic. It probably works better if you are comparing events that are quite similar, like 6x6 and 7x7, or 4BLD and 5BLD, as they are more likely to have a similar improvement curve.

I forgot that kinch score is a thing 😭😭😭😭

Kinch is just the simple answer yo

Should I close this thread as it is answered?

I’m not a moderator, and I generally don’t like when people tell moderators how to do their job. However, in my humble opinion, it would be more beneficial to address the spam in this thread rather than outright lock it. It’s entirely possible that someone will stumble across this and have something new to bring up—perhaps someone who has an issue with kinch being used in this way. Why shut that down preemptively?

There’s no downside to keeping the thread open. If it dies out, it’ll naturally fall off the homepage. If it stays active, that’s a sign there’s still interest or unresolved discussion.

The strength of forum boards is their ability to support and foster open-ended, evolving discussion. Locking threads prematurely works against that spirit. In my opinion, it’s healthier for the community if we leave space for people to chime in later rather than cutting things off too early.

Just my two cents.

If I may add to this, I don’t think judging based on WR is the greatest idea, especially since for some events (the big BLD events in particular), most people with SR’s/NR’s don’t average close to the WR. However, if we compare these solvers instead to something like WR100, it would distinguish it from Kinch, as well (personally) as being a far more attainable number than WR/SR
