Why is gan so expensive???????????

probably because:
The quality of plastic is much better compared to other cubes like the WRM V10 and TV4. Now im not saying those cubes are low quality, im just saying GAN makes their cubes much more premium. plus, they are the only ones who seem to have mastered the plastic core design (to my knowledge)
that’s pretty much it lol

I've heard they price them high to make you think that their cubes are just better because they are so expensive.
In economics - goods of ostentation, the higher the price the higher the demand. People judge quality by the price. 👍 I have a Gan 14 and it's fine, also they are sold to relatively few people (compared to Rubik's in a physical shop) so they have to make a profit.

9 years old average kid: has GAN Ultimate Primium QWD++, solves cube using LBL in 2 minutes
9 years old chinese kid: has QiYi solves under 4 seconds avg
cuber who started in 2010: solves under 20 sec, has Dayan Guhong, best cube ever

The simplest answer is that people are willing to buy them at that price. They definitely present themselves as a premium brand, as mentioned above.
Out of the top 10, I know Garrett doesn't use Gan, and I wasn't able to confirm for Max (although he has definitely used it in the past before), but all others use Gan. It seems like every Chinese kid uses it, that might be because of a sponsorship deal or the coaches there consider it best (or it could be organic preference). Excluding the Chinese kids, it's more split among the remaining top 20.
However, as far as branding goes, they had most of the top over time, most notably Feliks, but also Tymon, Matty, Leo, and Nahm off the top of my head. More recently, their 2x2 and 5x5 have also been among if not the best.
Personally, it was a big reason I bought my Gan, and I'd be lying if I said the high price didn't make me curious. Ultimately I found I liked Moyu better, though, which is nice because they're a lot cheaper.

Their 2x2 is still used by most of the top cubers and the thinking goes you could spend $10-20 on another 2x2 but you might as well spend $30 on the de facto best 2x2 that seems to fit a lot of cubers.

I still like my used GAN X turning the best but I use the 356 M just for normal solving since it's sticker less.

I bought my first gan when I was like 40s avg, and I loved it immediately.
I tried all other top cubes at the time and nothing compared in terms of joy of turning it.
Once I reached 15s I started appreciating performance more and realized that e.g. WRM could be better in right hands, but for a bad cuber like me - gan felt more forgiving and i got better results with it especially under pressure. But at this level I started appreciating other cubes might have better peak performance.

I haven't bought any flagship cube in 3 years so all this might be completely irrelevant today.

Which GAN? The newer ones like 12/15 feel different than X/XS
