As you might have noticed, there have been several people posting…questionable content. (Several threads have been created on the subject of online dating.) It’s bloody annoying, inappropriate, and potentially dangerous to kids.

Several other people, namely @NebraskanSpeedsolver have claimed that their accounts have been “hacked”.

Is SS Forum’s security bad? Does its data protection need to be reviewed?

Or is it just people creating accounts and posting crap for the fun of it?

I would appreciate answers on this subject.

it wasn't hacked accounts. it was many spam accounts created. that's why most forums have the first message a new user makes have to be approved
Thank you. That explains part of the question.

However, people’s accounts being hacked - is this member error (not setting a strong password for example), or is SS Forums not looking after members data?

This question needs to be answered.

Given that you have only one example of someone's account being "hacked", and it's a user claiming someone else was on their account arguing in a thread in their own defence (sounds unlikely and pointless), I'm willing to bet the site's security is not under threat.

Forum spam has been an issue forever and will remain so until the end of time, it just needs to be dealt with quickly, but it can be jarring if you log in and see 20 identical threads before they get cleaned up.

So report the spam posts!!

Also, like, just because a spam post (which you already know is a spam post, by virtue of being extremely off topic) advertises a service, it doesn't mean that they actually offer that service at all. If they're morally bankrupt enough to resort to spamming, would they still be honest enough to provide whatever service they're advertising? They might advertise dating, but more likely they're trying to scam lonely or emotionally vulnerable folk.

(I guess it's an interesting economics / game theory question. When can you expect criminals to be honest? E.g. for something like ransomware, there is a reputational incentive to decrypt the hostage data once the ransom is received. Spammers OTOH already have negative reputation.)

lol
lmao even

(When I first saw this thread I wanted to say something like "just use a strong password, dummy" but it turned out that my phone login had expired and I couldn't log in because my password was too strong to remember. Irony wins this time!)

I believe that @JDAW6 said something about his account being hacked. (I may well be wrong, this is my memory, don’t get angry with me if my memory is misleading me.)

I can’t name the account names of some of the people who’ve been making dating threads, as their threads have been removed
Riezzi_ and i dont remeber the other one
