I did super well today, my best ever comp performance! Before this comp, I had never gotten more than one sub 8 average at a comp, and today I got three! I got an insane 5.72 Fullstep single as well, with around 10 TPS (video here)! All of this resulted in a 7.81 ao3r.
I did well in 2x2, I got a 3.13 PR Average in the first round (plus two out of 2.91 average on the last solve 💀 ) Maybe sub 3 soon???
Overall super fun comp!

45 STM / 4.83 = 9.32 TPS

Looking back that was a horrible first pair solution, rotating would have been much better, or I could have done the M F2 M' solution, but the solve was completely TPS carried lol, the scramble was pretty mid.

I just realized that I have four 7.6 averages even though my PR is also 7.6 💀
This got me thinking about all the times i've failed a good average, so I made a list.

Fail #1: At Westerns 2023 I got a 7.93 average (first sub 8) which started off with the following times:
7.63: good solve
7.07: good solve, PR
7.12: good solve
I knew I had the potential to get a sub 8 average, which made me incredibly nervous. So my next solve was a locky 9.78, which should have been a high 7, since there were terrible lockups and instead of doing the easy U ZB, I did the standard alg for the OLL which resulted in a really locky Y perm to finish.
The last solve was a locky 9.04, which probably would have been a mid 8, so I don't really care about that solve.
All of this would have resulted a 7.5 average.

Fail #2: At SacCubing XV 2023, I got an 8.03 average, with the following times.
6.02: PR, good solve
9.21: Incredibly easy scramble, should have been a 7.2 at worst, but I was really nervous and had terrible lockup
6.51: good solve, counting
8.37: also an easy scramble that I locked up terribly on, should've been a 7.5
9.82: Would have been the worst solve regardless so idc
This should have been a 7.1 average

Fail #3: At BASC 54 2023, I got a 7.76 average:
9.54: Really locky, and I fumbled at the end as well. Bad solve all around, should have been a low 8 because bad scramble
10.51: Locky, bad solve, should have been a mid to high 8
6.88: good
6.65: good
6.86: ok, really long v perm at the end so it should've been low 6/the best solve
This should have been a 7.2 average

Fail #4: At BASC 59 2024, I got a 7.65 tied PR average
10.25: Plus 2 out of 8.25
7.23: Good solve
6.55: Good solve
8.06: Messed up cross + 1, should have been mid 7
7.65: Terrible F Perm, this should have been the fastest solve
This average should have been 7.1

I'm great at failing averages

I learned 7 Simul Flip, and I've only done 6 attempts but I have 5 successes lol.

I tried learning 7 Simul during winter break (Tommy's original version), but I gave up after the first day, and I think I only got one success, if even. I'll try to stick with it this time, 7 Simul Flip seems more fun then NoFlip.
Good start! 7sf is a very good method, I dropped my global average from about 10 to 5-6 in just a few months. I recently got WR391 avg (as of 5/31/24) in comp with a 5.77, so this is definitely a very good method to start using. What version are you learning? (I use bpaul)

I found a solution with an LL skip

Cubing Update (and summer plan):
I haven't been practicing 4x4 recently due to a lack of recent comps with the event, but I'll get back into it after the comp this weekend. I have been doing 6x6 for the last day or so, and I intend to continue practicing until the comp on Sunday. I haven't practiced for over a year, and it's actually pretty fun. I'm averaging sub 2:30 which is wild since my comp PR's of a 2:21 single and 2:33 average were overall PB's like 2 days ago. I've broken many PB singles as well, my PB is now a 2:16, but I'll probably lower that to sub 2:10 as I do more solves as I've gotten to 3x3 stage low 2/sub 2 a couple of times now.

I've been grinding 3x3, of course. Cross + 2 has been my main priority for the last week or so. I usually have a significant pause after first pair due to my sub satisfactory lookahead (which I am working on), and if I can consistently plan 2 pairs, my solve should flow much better and I am almost sure my global will drop to comfortably sub 7. My average inspection time for 2 pairs is usually sub 30, though I do have some random outliers on bad scrambles, and I can take upwards of a minute, maybe more.

This week is also the last week of school. Summer break will give me a lot of time to grind, and I have a lot of stuff to work on. My main goals for 3x3 will be to become proficient in cross plus two, and also to become comfortable with at least one full set of ZBLL (probably T). I also want to finally break the sub 7 barrier in competition.

I also intend to practice a lot of 4x4 this summer. My global was around 33 when I was practicing (probably 35 now), and I want to use my 2.5 months off of school to get sub 30.

I'm confident that I will be able to improve quite a bit due to all the time to grind. Last summer I went from averaging low 9 to high 7 on 3x3, and I want accomplish something similar this year.

So all I took from this is that currently, I have a faster 6x6 PB single than you do.

Cool
