Cubing and anxiety

Great Topic! I have some thoughts!

Personally, I have observed that speedcubes are often marketed as de-stressers, and while that isn't at all a selling point for me, I can look back and say that "yes, this thing is actually a de-stresser!" A cube is always on my desk, so whether, it's school or something that's on my nerves or mind, I can just cube to add some rhythm and physical yet subconscious organization to my feelings and thoughts. I definitely have anxiety spikes during school weeks as I am only a 15 year old who is taking General Education college courses, and cubing has been there for me, and while it might annoy my parents and friends, they don't say anything. They're sorta just glad that I'm not taking medicine which is something that at one point my family had considered for my brother and I.

Now in terms of giving me Anxiety... well sorta. You see, this past year, I had an episode... actually many episodes... of.... eMOYUtional Damage. I'm not kidding lol. I have serious analysis paralysis where I literally feel two or even three parts of my brain trying to choose what to get or what to do. I'm quite conscious of this, so I have developed a healthy lifestyle where I try to avoid online or physical shopping as much as possible. In short, I haven't bought a knew 3x3 in about 10 months because I would get anxious just looking at all of the new releases.

Side Note: if anyone struggles with this as much as I do (seriously, it's gotten me into some bad places), just try to become a very literal person and use crystal clear logic to guide your path.

Cubing is a great de-stresser for me as fidgeting and solving things makes me feel more centered.

Though, my parents don't entirely like me cubing all the time, so it pisses me off that they have such strict rules on cubing and time allotments. I used to have to pay $2 per hour to cube, and my allowance was $5 a week!

A big cube? At least for me, listening to music while I solve is distracting. I could understand if it was like a 10x10 or something.
depends on the event when I need to Focus (like 3BLD) I just listen to instrumental music like clasical or movie/video game soundtracks.
For other events I just listen to normal music

When does cubing makes you feel LESS anxious?
Whenever I solve my 15x15 and just listen to music and let my mind go. I'm actually considering solving it soon, it's been scrambled for about 5 months now.
When does cubing makes you feel MORE anxious?
Probably just when I'm cubing just to do something, like when I'm bored and I start to space out and think of everything I have to do.

Please write your thoughts on how, in your opinion, cubing and anxiety are related.

For example:

When does cubing makes you feel LESS anxious?
When does cubing makes you feel MORE anxious?
Cubing mostly makes me less anxious because I find it fun to do.

However, I have severe ADHD, and I procrastinate a lot because of that. I find that cubing is very often a distraction from my other responsibilities (such as homework) and I get anxiety from that.

Overall though, I find cubing to be a positive in my life because I love the community, I have made many friends from it, and because I love to do it.

Dude I used to have to read a "good" book for twice as long as I cubed. So an hour of reading would only grant me 30 minutes of cubing. This included fun authors like G. A. Henty (never read this man's books, i almost died of boredom)
