i know full cfop, my cross solutions i think are pretty good, and my pll is roughly 3-6 seconds, my oll is probably similar, i know how to do advanced f2l, i know 0 look ahead, i average 25-30 seconds, i found when i did loads of solves in a short period of times, aka warming up and practicing loads it could drop to 23-25, and i don't know what to learn next, maybe get better oll/pll or f2l? or all of those, maybe do look ahead? learn how to deduce where pieces are? learn coll? i just don't know, so can someone give me advice? or if you need more information or me to do a little test for less guessy statistics then ask, i'm just really confused on where to go, thanks in advance,

with what you have, you could definitely begin to get some sub 20's. Personally, my "equipment" for sub 20 is decent cross, advanced f2l (by this I mean around 5 move solutions and back slot solutions), full pll (I'm still missing about 5), and 2 look oll (with the general idea of influencing a yellow cross). influencing the yellow isn't absolutely necessary tho. just focus on not pausing too much and thinking smart.

Since you use CFOP, if you time your splits (cross, f2l, oll, pll) you can estimate your 'weakest' step and focus there perhaps. (This spreadsheet will give 'average splits' for whatever your time is.) Also, you may wish to consider filming a few of your solves and watching them back in slow motion. That'll let you identify if pauses or TPS are a limiting factor for you.

(I'm a noob though, so listen to other people too.)

if you get bored with 3x3 you should definitely get into some other events, such as 4x4+, or wca events, or be like me and go on to the very big puzzles, like 8+.
The event i enjoyed the most that is in WCA is Pyra, but its different for everyone, so experiment.
Or you could go do other things, like play chess, skateboard, work out, or just be you :3

Quit 3x3 for clock like me

i'm starting to think i'm just dumb... i can do advanced f2l, but i could brush up and get a few more cases, but they may be a bit trivial, i have full pll, i have 1 look oll, what do you mean by influencing a yellow cross? i do pause quite a bit, and i don't know how particularly good my solutions are, so i should have sub 20? god this is so confusing, but i have decided to devote lots of my day to do around 100 3x3 solves, at least 1 successful no flip clock solve, *cough* PAIN *cough* and maybe learn 4x4 parity.

thats the exact wrong problem! im overwhelmed, not underwhelmed.

i would love to try new puzzles but my parents usually don't let me get stuff to close together, but very nice advice eitherway.

now i shall rant about big cubes: WHATS THE POINT??? it's just loads of money for nothing new? i think buying up to 5x5 is fair, because one even big cube and one uneven big cube, but its just the same as you scale! all that happens is its more money, theres more chances to mess up, and its longer! (this is mean't to be passive so don't take this wrong please)

i'll try splitting my times, i have a bluetooth cube so that wont be too hard, oh my wow that spreadsheet is amazing, how does it even work? well im going to use it and love it, thank you for sharing that info. (i think you we're one of the people who gave the most useful advice cuz of that spreadsheet so dont worry)

thank you everyone for the advice! hopefully this helps me get in any way good, i'm going to brush my teeth now.

Inasmuch as your time is moves / TPS, yes you need tps. But rather than focusing on high bursts of TPS spam, I’d recommend reducing pauses in F2L and mainly focusing on the efficiency of your cross and F2L (the amount of moves they take). It couldn’t hurt to drill your last layer algs to get them faster, but spamming TPS in F2L won’t be particularly helpful. Here’s a great resource for how to be sub-30 (even though you’re sub 30 you should still watch) and sub-20:

yeah, like I said, don't worry about influencing a yellow cross, I just threw that out there since it does help, but not that much if you haven't learned 2 look oll. definitely stop pausing, or start turning slower. I can get a sub 20 by still turning relatively slow. be methodical with your pairing. your first and second pair are the most important. you first pair should be the one that is already in the U layer after you make cross, and you should look out for you second pair as you are doing the first (this is where slow solves come in handy). you are aiming for a sub 11 cross/f2l if you want sub 20. which is in your grasp if you know advanced f2l. From there, it is recognition, execution, and then celebration.

Nice! I'll probably get a smartcube in a few years once I'm good enough to make use of them.

I didn't make the sheet. But it just hard-codes example split times for a few average times; linearly interpolates to get splits for your actual average; then adds a blind +/- 20%. (Which is good b/c there's no error analysis.)

I'm glad I was able to help you out. Good luck in the future!

I think Efficiency should be the #1 thing that you need to work on if you want to get better at 3x3. Finger Tricks are also important. Once you know advanced finger tricks and you're more efficient with parts of your solve (Cross and F2L). You can probably move onto Look Ahead. I am sorta on the same boat but I want to be sub 15. Just keep practicing and you will get sub-20.
