Yeah many threads have been made about this, please don't spam threads.
Anyway, to answer you question:
No, I don't think so. I think Jperm explained this pretty well in one of his Q&A videos. If someone asks your parents what sports they play, I don't think they're going to be like "Oh yeah, cubing!" Also I think generally sports require more exertion than cubing and while people many argue with this this is my opinion.

Darts. Chess. What athletic exertion does chess require? Less than cubing. Mental, sure, more, but athletic, absolutely less.
To be completely honest I don't really consider chess a sport either.
I guess it really depends on how you define sports. Like more of activities involving competitions vs physical activities.
It is true that chess can also be very tiring but not because you are moving your body a lot.

i feel like there has to be a certain amount of activity to classify something as a sport, and cubing doesnt really cut it imo

The primary definition of "sport" in the Oxford English Dictionary is: An activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.

By that definition cubing and chess both qualify. Exertion is strictly physical or mental effort, or the application of a force (not a measured amount of either). Cubing and chess both require mental and physical exertion, albeit somewhat slight on the physical side depending upon the event.

However personal definitions of sport obviously differ. I too believe that sport should be considered as a slightly more physically involved event. I prefer to think of cubing competitions as a mental competition with oneself looking to achieve a higher ranking than those also competing; in short, a competition. Because I've never competed in a WCA event or competition I prefer to think of my cubing/twisty puzzling as a skill development challenge with myself. I would never say that I was practicing a sport while trying to figure out a new puzzle. I would however say that I was testing my ability to get past the current challenge.

to everyone who said something about this post being a unoriginal post or around the lines of here we go again, then im sorry im trying to make a fun debate.
