Waiting lists... do we actually have a chance?

I've Googled and searched this forum but haven't found anything on this topic. My family is new to cubing and this is our first competition. My kids got in but I'm on the waiting list. The question:

How many competitions actually dig into their waiting lists? And how far in do they tend to go?

I'm looking for generalities and percentages. Like, do 5% of competitors usually drop out or get disqualified before events? 10%? 1%? 0%? From your experience as a waitlisted competitor or a delegate/organizer, what do you typically see regarding wait lists? What do you think the standard deviation is (Like, usually 5% on the waiting list get in, but 0% to 10% are very common as well, or it's always between 4% and 6%)

Also, does level of interest play a role? Our competition filled to 100 with almost 100 on the waiting list in 24 minutes. Does that make it more likely to dip into the waiting list? Less? Neither?

I've organized a few competitions around 100 competitors, and in my experience around 5-10 competitors drop out, freeing up that many spots from the waitlist. It's highly unexpected for 0 people to get off the waitlist, and I'd also be surprised if more than 10 make it.

It may depend on the organizer's messaging too. Personally I make a point to encourage people to let us know if they can't make it to the comp, and offer a pretty significant refund if they let us know in advance. If the organizer doesn't do this more people may drop out without notifying anyone, meaning their spots would go unfilled.

From my experience, assuming you're going to Cubing Knights, I would say if you are in the top 10% of people on the waiting list, you should be able to get in.

If it filled that fast, you can assume a large amount of people wanted to register, so a large number of people are probably on the waiting list. I would guess about 20-50

Yes, it's Cubing Knights. I may eventually reach out to those delegates, but I assume this is a hectic time for them, so I will wait until they let us know about our places on the waiting list, because they'll probably answer many of my questions then. I just wanted to get community consensus, especially for other first-timers who wonder about this.

The comp closed registration after only 24 minutes, and one person who sounded like he was in with the organizers/delegates said they already had nearly 100 on the waiting list. According to our receipts, I had my payment in 11 seconds after my son (2 minutes and 43 seconds after registration opened). He made it and I didn't. So, I've got to be somewhere near the top of the list, right?

Yeah I would assume you're pretty high up on the waiting list, but 100 on the waiting list almost never happens. With such high demand, the Florida delegates will probably try to organize more competitions soon.

I would suggest sending an email explaining your situation. You might be able to get in if someone no-shows since you’re on the waitlist and will be there anyway to take your kids.
