I noticed something interesting about Yusheng Du's 3.47 WR solve. Let's take a look at the reconstruction.
He begins by doing U R2 U' F' L F' U' L' to solve a XXcross. However in doing so he also solves EO from a 2-flip (essentially making this an EOcross.)
He then solves his F2L using only R and U moves as the two left slots were finished in the EOcross, and finishes with ZBLL.
This makes me think that this solve was at least accidentally done with ZZ. Let me know what you think.

Yeah people commented that back then

People said it's actually petrus
It was meant to be CFOP, but the solve itself has much more resemblance to Petrus in its nature, especially with the XXcross being a 2x2x3, and ZBLL, which is basically Petrus.

Or...

Inspection: z y
2x2x3+EO: U R2 U' F' L F' U' L'
F2L:U' R U R2 U R U2 R' U R
ZBLL:U R' U' R U' R‘ U2 R U

This solve is much more like Petrus than CFOP in all honesty.

After looking at the reconstruction of Yusheng Du's World Record Single, Inoticed three things:

1: the XXCross formed a 2x2x3, also solving EO.
2: F2L was solved whilst preserving EO by only using RU moves.
3: the LL was one look, OLLCP, or rather, ZBLL.

There is a method that does all of this as part of it's steps, and it isn't CFOP.

You know what it actually is? PETRUS!

Here is a reconstruction of the WR solve, but instead if using CFOP terminology, it uses Petrus terminology. It makes much more sense than the CFOP reconstruction:

z y // inspection
U R2 U' F' L F' U' L' // 2x2x3+EO
U' R U R2 U R U2 R' U R // F2L
U R' U' R U' R' U2 R // ZBLL
U // AUF

It's also CFOP, and it's also ZZ-d. Fact of the matter is the easiest solves can be classified as multiple different methods, but his explanation clearly shows that the intent was to do CFOP

I still think it's Petrus. In ZZ, the primary goal is to do eo then to blockbuild. In Petrus it's to blockbuild then to eo, and the solution much more resembles Petrus than cfop. Also, the idea that it was done purposefully with anything other than cfop is wrong, but the actual solve is a Petrus solve. And also, I don't think that calling it ZZ-D is correct, otherwise 1/6 of my solves would be ZZ-D and they're not. They could be called accidental ZZ-D solves, just like this is an accidental Petrus solve, but it isn't a ZZ solve imo,

We can interpret a solve in many methods.

It does not matter if Yusheng Du was even thinking of ZZ during the solve. The interpretation of us matters.

You know, now that I interpret it, you aren't learning 5 style you are just learning four style but you have to learn the extra piece.
