Isaiah Scott’s Progression Thread: Loving Cubing Again!

[Isaiah Scott]

Hey guys! It’s Isaiah. I wanted to do a progression thread based on getting myself better at big cubes. I average 1:40-1:45 on 5x5, 3:30 on 6x6, and 5:25-5:30 on 7x7. Any help appreciated!

[Isaiah Scott]

I got a 1:28.46 single, 1:38.03 ao5, and a 1:42.99 ao12 which are all pbs while practicing recently!

[Isaiah Scott]

On 6x6, I got a 3:03.35 PB2 single, a 3:22.35 PB mo3, and on 7x7, I got a 4:59.45 PB single, my 2nd sub-5!

Just to note is that you can't have more than 1 progression. There is a chance that this thread will be moved to your main progression thread.

[Isaiah Scott]

This is my only progression thread.

Alrighty, then. Good luck on sub 3 6x6 and sub 4/5 7x7!

I have a comp on Sunday called Big Cubes In Edneyville 2023. It has 5x5, 6x6, and 7x7. Goals and current PRs:
5x5 PRS: 1:42.75 single, 1:48.89 avg, goal low 1:40 avg.
6x6 PRS: 3:34.64 single, 3:38.25 mean, goal 3:10 - 3:15 mean.
7x7 PRS: 5:30.67 single, 5:39.09 mean, goal sub 5:00 mean.
Super excited, I finished 7th grade today, so I'm gonna go practice and hope to do good at the comp!

Haven't updated this in a long time, but I would like to be more active. I also want to be good at clock, and averaging 10, want sub-9 by 2024.

Sub-9 by 2024 will be very, very easy if you consistently practice even a low-moderate amount and utilize lucky cases. If you practice more, I’d say even sub-8 could be easily attainable too!

Yeah I did like 80 solves today. Gonna try to keep up 50+ solves per day until I have wilderness camp in mid July. Do you have any tips for switching to pinkies/ thumbs for the DL and DR places?

Thumbs feels very, VERY weird at first. I would say you should begin doing those now, as it will be harder to transition the faster you get. Also learn how to solve from all angles, and to use an x flip rather than y! I can send you a big list of things to do if you’d like.

x2 z2 and y2 flips should all be used to maximize skips.
