Limits of Speedcubing

Hi so I don't know if this has been posted yet but what are the limits in your opinion. How fast will 3x3 averages be? Sub 5, 4 or 3? Or have we already reached the limit. Also curious on other events such as oh, 2x2, big cubes, pyra, squan, skewb, bld etc. I think there's a chance that the top speedcubers could be little more faster. Aside from how fast, how about hardware? Will there still be new innovations in the hardware of cubing?

I think no matter what we think the limit is, most of the time we'll beat that. There's a thread about this topic from 2012.

If you read the posts, some of them have ridiculously high estimates. I think that pattern will repeat a few times.

personally,i think the limit for 2x2 will be sub1 averages,i dont see any top 2x2 solvers getting faster than 0.9 averages.
for 3x3,i think the limit is sub 4,in the next 5 or 10 years,i can see tymon kolasinski,max park and matty hiroto inaba getting a sub 4 average in comp.

I think global average of low-4 to mid-4 is possible for 3x3 (Yiheng himself could accomplish this, given he is only 8). Sub-4 ao5 will probably happen officially at some point. I don't know if a sub-3 average will ever happen. Of course, people have already gotten sub-3 singles, so in theory a sub-3 average is possible, but for something so unlikely there are many other factors preventing it from happening. Will cubing be popular for long enough? Will competition formats be changed? Note that (afaik) no one even has a sub-4 average yet.

The fact that there are thousands of 2x2 algs, ranging from CLL to TEG2+, I think that the limit is far from the 1.02 record right now. There are many legends such as Will Callan, Zayn Khanani, Ram Thakkar, Jiazhou Li, Alexander Bashutkin and more who are still getting faster, not to mention that there are legends still in the making, therefore I think it can be beaten. I mean, Zayn has a 0.66 pb avg, Ram has a 0.89 pb avg, and who knows what else? I average sub-5 on 2x2 with ortega and cll, so I'm not the best, but it's my main event and I know a little bit about. Last thing to take in is the hardware. We have the Valk 2M, the MGC Elite, the TengYun and many more puzzles yet to come, so the hardware definitely will improve the times.

P.S - this is just my opinion, so don't hate on me if you don't agree

For 3x3 prob 2 to 3 second averages. Only because the wr for fmc is 20 second and they got 1 hour to solve the cube. In 3x3 15 seconds is not enough time to get a 15 to 20 move solve. And even a 20 move solve 12tps would be around 2 seconds.

Yay ? Ngl after Yiheng came along theres a new wr every month or two. This time next year he will probably have got 3x3 single wr and broken this one a couple more times.

I dont think he will break the 3x3 avg wr until a few months later this year
