qwr's road to nowhere

random 3x3 pb 17.58: very lucky f2l from okayish cross, then meh ll
D2 U2 L R2 B2 U2 R' U2 R' D2 F' U R' D' U B' F2 L2 D F2

approx recon
y2 D' R' D' L D2 L // cross
y' U L' U L
U2 R U' R'
U L U L'
y U' R U R' U R U R' // f2l
U2 (F U R U' R' F') U2 (R U R' U R U2 R') // 2loll
(R U R' U' R' F R2 U' R' U' R U R' F') U // pll

maybe someone can come up with a much better ll :)
For 2-look, you could've used the alg: f R U R' U' f' which would get you a sune case, then a t perm. and save you a couple of moves.
If you knew the 1 look alg for this it would look like, (R U2 R') (R' F R F') (R U2 R'), then get an A perm with U2 AUF.

The cross+f2l was 28 ETM (including rotations) so I thought maybe there was some really nice ZBLL or something that would lead to a 40-50 ETM solution

lucky scramble my friend gave me that was a 19, could've been better with better cross planning
actually this recon is wrong because in my solve I actually got a different cross oll and ended with z perm but same idea

z2 y D' R F L y' D2 L D2 // cross lolbad
U' L' U L
U' R U R' L U' L'
U' R U' R2' U R
U' R U R' U R U' R' // f2l
F' r U R' U' r' F R // oll
F R U' R' U' R U R' F' R U R' U' R' F R F' // pll

well at least rotationless f2l

a better cross is maybe like z2 y (U D') R F L' F L2 F2 to preserve pair but still seems bad. U D' is something xu ruihang does for some reason.
the basic f2l inserts he can tps very quickly.
there is probably an xcross under 8 moves that makes better further f2l pairs

I've been doing casual slow solves to try to practice F2L but I can't even figure out cross in inspection. I should really work on that instead of just solving 3 edges and being lazy

I don't even know full PLL. I just never bothered to learn R perms, one of the N perms, and G perms. Does anyone have any motivation for me to learn these because I'm lazy
I know this is kinda cliché but the motivation will come after you do it.
Just tell yourself you will sit for 15 minutes and learn the R perm. After you got the muscle memory down just put the cube down and go do something else
the next day learn the other R perm, then the other days the other algs
then just drill the plls on cstimer or do a pll attack
visualize how you will feel accomplished because you finally learnt full pll
you can do it in like one week so put it on the calendar and take action

I sat down today to learn the other N perm
(R' U R U' R') (F' U' F) (R U R') (F R' F' R) U' R
I've tried it dozens of times and unlike the other N perm I just can't execute it fast. The stupid F' U' F moves trip me up and my finger tricks must be bad because I keep accidentally doing wide F moves instead of F

I'm trying to get into muscle memory a different alg that flows nicer
r' D' F (r U' r') F' D (r2 U r' U') (r' F r F')

maybe I'll just use the stupid
(R' U L' U2 R U' L)2
apparently Max Park uses this

I have gotten the alg down and it should flow in theory if I turn precisely but I just can't execute it quickly and it turns out as slow as the RUL alg

The RUD Ra perm is supposedly faster but (R U R' F') (R U2 R' U2) (R' F R) (U R U2 R') U' is so easy to fingertrick regripless because it's like a J perm

good averages today with planning out cross and trying to remember f2l piece locations. 25.83 avg, 22.38 ao5
my hands are too shaky for the tengyun v1. I will go back to a slower cube
I need to practice more slow solves. you cannot learn good habits in normal solves

I'm at the stage of learning algs where I'm forgetting my old algs. Sometimes I panic and I just mess up Ja or Nb. If I execute T or E slowly I forget what the next moves are because it's muscle memory. Most of my algs are chosen to feel "natural" but they get confusing. The Rb perm I'm learning is R2' F (R U R U') (R' F' R) (U2' R' U2 R) U

17.50 PB on this scramble with white cross.
D' R' F2 U' L' F' U F2 U2 R D2 L2 B2 L' B2 R' F2 L2 F2 D

Apparently 4 move xcross on blue. Hypothetical rotationless 22 ETM F2L solution

I got a slight 2x2 session PB of 5.42. I cleaned out my valk 2 and loosened it, which helped with speed.
My goal is sub-5 2x2 and sub-20 3x3. Sub-5 2x2 is definitely possible with just Ortega/LBL and predicting OLL.

I got a new good 2x2 session PB of 5.21, beating my old PB of 5.42 by a lot. I loosened my valk and added dnm which sped it up tremendously. All I did was try to turn faster without any more OLL prediction. TPS seems to be very important in 2x2.
If I just keep practicing my algs and turning fluidity sub-5 is definitely possible.

This 3x3 session I tried efficient F2L over turnspeed and also experimenting with CN. Most of the time I choose white or yellow but sometimes when there was a 3 or 4 move other color cross I would do that. I averaged 4 seconds more than my usual (30 instead of 26) It still seems that dual CN is the easier.

Something I have been working on is untimed solves and f2l efficiency, since "just doing solves" is a slow way to improvement. Even though I average probably 1 tps in F2L I am still not much slower than my normal inefficient solves (avg 28 seconds, which is surprisingly good). this practice feels very effective so I'll continue it

I got 25.45 session average with my gan m trying to turn faster but I could definitely feel myself slipping in efficiency. So I'll go back to slower solves.

New single PB 17.44 with pretty bad efficiency but somehow I spotted all the f2l pairs immediately
