I've heard that being color neutral affects look ahead this way, that it's a trade-off; is this true?

If so, does it affect dual CN?

It does, but with practice, you can lookahead as well as you do with your main cross color.
It doesn't affect dual CN as much, but the difficulty might come up by on notch.

It's not true. If it affects your look ahead, it means that you are not color neutral.
It is true actually. Being used to one colour makes you develop better look-ahead because you can see F2L pieces more easily; this is true for last layer as well. CN's advantages rely on inspection, but everything else is slightly nerfed.
You are not CN if using different cross colours affects your look ahead.

Really interesting but makes me want to stick to white (I won't give up guys, I will become CN)

Of course it's possible to be colour neutral, but it will require extra effort, so you may as well put that effort into cubing better in one colour. If you try to be colour neutral, you will always be catching up to the guy who is colour specific. When I decided to pick one colour, it was the best decision I ever made.
