Method

Switch to Petrus...less algs, much more thinking.

ill try it,, could you give my some tips?

-Be able to understand how pieces move around the cubes
-Watch this awesome tutorial. Erik [Johnson] has other parts of the tutorial on his channel.
-Be patient, practice makes perfect.

just wondering,, do you know the top speeds of petrus users, i heard very few were sub20

Erik Johnson is the best Petrus cuber, he averages sub-14.
Josh Larsen is also very good at Petrus.

just reallized somthing,, solutions are just like operating systems,, fridrich is the most popular just like windows, petrus thinks totally differently like macs and roux and waterman are somwhere in between but not as common like Linux

... and ZZ is like BSD, few people use it because they just don't understand it :p

HAHAHAHA personally being the son of a Geek Squad guy i think your hilarious

How is your LL taking 30 seconds with 2 look OLL/PLL? Each alg should only take around 3 seconds to do (generous on time), so that's a base time of 12, and you should be able to recognize them in 1 second or less.

I would probably stick to Fridrich, method doesn't matter as much as execution. LBL with extreme piece tracking and turning speed can sub 30, even sub 20 as shown by some people.

2 Look PLL could be misleading, although we assume that he knows all of the 2 Look PLL algorithms that may not be the case. Currently I am teaching a friend 2 Look Last Layer and to spare him learning all of the algorithms at once I have specified all the necessary algorithms to complete the last layer. Basically I mean Sune, Corner Cyle and Edge Cycle, it means if he comes across any case he doesn't know he can still get past it. MiniGOINGS may be similar, it is not difficult to get sub-30 on the last layer but make sure you are doing the algorithms in at least 5-6 seconds, that would knock a few seconds of your time.

Regarding the cross, it is another one of those things you just get good at. I would recommend scrambling the cube, building the cross and then scrambling again. If you really need help BadMePhisto has a YouTube video that could give you some advice. Also, on a final note don't listen to those who tell you to build the cross on the bottom; there is no hard evidence to prove it is quicker. Make it on the top, bottom, front or even side just so long as you are comfortable and feel fast. There are a few techniques that could help you get faster in any which way you build the cross.
Making the cross on the bottom is backed up with hard evidence because when you are inspecting the cross you can find the first f2l slot or the second slot to the extended cross. I agree that you should do it on the side that you feel most comfortable with, but if you just practice for 5 minutes or so you can solve the cross on the bottom. And if you do solve for a different side other than the top you should keep the cube the same position the whole time. One of my friends solves the cross on the top and never flips the cube over for the rest of the solve including LL(orientation and permutation)

How would you do LL on D? You'd have a hard time looking at the cube unless you constantly kept looking at it like it were between D and F. The algorithms too, might be a problem, but not as much as not being able to see what you're doing.

There's another topic that discusses cross on top, as doing the x2 after the cross may give you a quick full inspection that subconsciously speeds up your F2L, even though it's physically slower.

x2 is a pretty fast move for me, try it yourself. Solve the cross on top, and do x2 and go straight into the first pair nonstop using x2 for inspection? I can't do it, but maybe I could with practice.

miniGOINGS, i am not that experienced cuber. but hey this is what i got..
ive been cubing since november till december i used LBL(Heise method the begginer) during those times i was stunned by Fridrich method well i struggled to learned it that times.. but still my main method was the LBL one.. i got sub -50 in that one.. but after wards january camed i practiced Fridrich first i cared for F2L well i was really bad at first about 40 secs.. i learned fingertricks some proper algorithms and there i got 30 secs to solve the F2L now im practicing look aheads... were both bad dont worry :) your not alone..

about PLL and OLL you should learn it from your heart now i got 18/21 PLL ill learn G Perms today.. and i got about 10/57 OLL's but i use 2 look as if..just learn them one by one.. dont force your self..

wow, its good to know someone that understands me if i learn 1 algorithm a day i should be good,, but i cant start learning till my DIYs come from cube4you

xD I've been trying to learn OLL since December...I think I have less than half memorized. And it took me two months to get my PLLs memorized. :P

The method doesn't matter that much when your solve times are that slow. I would recommend reading Macky's 'Getting fast with an easy method' here: http://www.cubefreak.net/speed/easy_fast.html

I just did two averages of 12, one with cross on top, on with cross on bottom.

Cross on top: 24.09, (25.97), (16.71), 20.05, 18.50, 25.65, 23.78, 25.36, 19.36, 17.66, 19.80, 19.90. Average: 21.42

That was actually better than I was expecting, especially after the first two solves. I did get faster after a little while, but it was really tough, and I found myself doing something like D2 instead of U2 a couple different times. :P The colours messed me up as well, because the green and blue (or red and orange) are switched when you hold it upside down. I found myself pausing more as well and messing up F2L more, especially on the first pair, because I was concentrating on not messing up the cross. :P

Edit: Also, non of these solves had a smooth transition from cross to F2L.

Cross on bottom: 17.53, 18.09, (22.22), 17.05, 19.44, 17.22, 19.33, 20.88, 19.68, 19.77, (14.15), 17.38. Average: 18.64

Not much to say about this. Very nice average, almost 3 seconds better than the cross on top one. Less F2L mess-ups and a much smoother F2L. I'm guessing my cross times were faster, as well. My times were also more consistent, with only two solves slower than 20 seconds. I guess a lot of it can be attributed to familiarity, because I had a couple fast solves with the cross on top (all solves were non-lucky).

wow, sorry to bring back the dead but

i just started to learn the Ortega method (on Waterman's site) yesterday and im already sub 60 with it,, im going to go to either waterman or roux,, any help from veterans in either?
