and try other methods before commenting on them

Agreed.

What qualifies as a "boring" method? That statement is entirely subjective, and no claim can be made that other methods are less boring than CFOP. Same can be said for any other method, even lbl. I recently tried to get as fast as I can with lbl and it was slow, but it was still fun.

Agreed.

The one problem with Roux (and CFOP but everyone already knows it) is that it’s getting overexploited. It hasn’t been completely run out yet (like CFOP which is at the stage that it gets boring and repetitive) but maybe in about 2 years. Roux hasn’t reached its peak yet, like ZZ, but unlike ZZ it has been used for a good 10 years.

Another thing is, Roux just doesn’t suit everyone. I’m not saying it’s a bad method, I’m just bad at slice turns and blockbuilding. For example, I use a 18 move RUFD gen Z Perm because I’m bad at slice turns, I’m okay at H Perm but try avoid it at all costs, and I use ZZ F2L, not blockbuilding f2l pairs.

Methods like Mehta and LEOR that aren’t that popular still have potential for improvement. ZZ has been experimented with a bit, less than both Roux and CFOP, but more than new methods like Mehta.

Obviously some people actually use methods like CF, LEOR and Petrus (which aren’t very well used, Petrus has definitely been used, but I don’t think it’s been worn out yet, like Roux.) and at some point, Roux will start losing popularity. It might be in 17 years, but it will be in the same position as CFOP at some point in time. It will happen to other methods as well, just because we are humans and we get bored, and lose interest in methods.

Again, personally I think Roux is the method that can go the furthest, and I don’t hate the method. I use CFOP for 2 handed and ZZ for one handed because I have tried and saw what I liked about the method and how I could use it, and to what extent I could get good times for. I don’t practise OH that often, so I would consider CFOP my main method.

To finish it off (whoops I went a little overboard writing this, it’s been 17 minutes), any of these are good, but you should think about what you really want, and whether you really want to switch.

Roux - best ergonomics for people decent at M moves and best move count
ZZ - fluid method, really good ergonomics and lots of choices
Mehta - most potential, high tps
CFOP - used to it, easiest to improve with.

It’s just my opinion, please don’t take this personally, and if you just see this bottom bit, tl;dr
*bad at slice turns and blockbuilding because you havent used roux for more than a month:)

because roux was bad when feliks started.
also the guy never plateaud
also almost no one switches methods after sub 10
I personally don't think roux is better than CFOP for 3x3. This is because blockbuilding means you have to think more, and MU gen is less ergonomic than RU/LU gen (F2L). However roux is a better method for OH as the MU flicks don't matter, as every turn is a flick for RU, so CFOP loses its moveset advantage. Lookahead and thus blockbuilding is smoother for OH as you turn slower, and the fact that there are fewer moves and rotations makes roux better for one handed.

P.S. Meyer sucks don't use it for big cubes or you will be bad

rRUM is a nice moveset for 2 handed and one handed and Roux isn't all blockbuilding lol. The preferred approach is plan FB+DR edge in inspection, then solve the 2 F2L pairs. The pairs can be more efficient than CFOP because of the free M slice.
and MU gen is less ergonomic than RU/LU gen (F2L).
Go on then, switch to the RU EPLLs because "MU isn't as ergonomic as RU".

This is the only thing that's correct in your post.

Dwyane Ramos uses Meyer and averages 30 on 4x4, 1 minute on 5x5 and 2 minutes on 6x6 so Meyer doesn't suck and you're wrong.

ye but MU is better

Maybe I’m just crap at M moves but I started by using them and could never get the M2 U M transition right so gave up.

Now I use RU and constantly get sub 1 (if only just) and use COLL and VH (which may slow my solves down a little bit for recog, but come on you have to admit it’s a decent approach)

I’m assuming both of them are good, but RU is for me.

MU is better. If you just can't do M moves, practise them. Only exception is when your cube has crap slices.

Yours,
Guy who played with RU and RUS and finally settled with MU
