Personally I have bloody massive sausage shrek hands, so I appreciate a slightly bigger more substantial feel to a cube. I feel like the 356 I have is a little small and light for my taste, the size difference to my older cubes is very noticeable in my hands. So I start looking on the cubicle and sort by size to see what my options are, and there's absolutely nothing! This is nuts to me, when I started cubing 57mm was standard, and now the entire cube industry is just going smaller and smaller. The WRM 2020 is in 55mm only? That's freaking puny, BACK IN MY DAY you would have to go out of your way to purchase a mini cube for that size and now it's standard? CRAZY

Why are all the cubes getting smaller? Was there really a big push in the community for smaller cubes? Was it GAN? I NEED ANSWERS MY SAUSAGE FINGERS ARE TOO BIG FOR BABY CUBE

Yeah 57 mm cubes are almost nonexistent nowadays. I think that as the community has shifted to be younger and younger, the manufactures have started to make more cubes to fit people with smaller hands. As someone who has average size hands, I don't really mind any size: 55, 56, and 57 millimeter cubes all feel fairly similar to me.

The trend has been for lighter and more flexible cubes, so the designers just thought making the cube smaller is the best way to go to save a few grams.

Kind of a shame imo, I really like the heavier more rigid feeling from older cubes. I'm seriously considering magnetizing some classic-ish cubes just to see how I perform on them, purely because I enjoy that feel and you can't really find that at all in more modern cubes. It really seems like I'm one of a very small percentage who prefer that feel though so I'm not complaining!

That definitely could be a factor, but I think abunickabhi made a good point in that manufacturers are trending towards less and less mass and "the lighter the better" mentality. That isn't necessarily a bad thing, it just doesn't fit my turning style that's used to ancient cubes now. I find myself struggling to get into a nice flow on my Gan because its just too light and the layers are just a bit small for my finger-width.

I looked into it and it just doesn't seem like the cube for me, not the feeling I'm looking for you know?

what deterred you? I feel like the ms has something of a reputation for being rigid and stable compared to the rest of today's market

Just doesn't seem to have a feel I would like, people are saying it has a pretty bumpy or "clicky" feel and I'm not really into that. The general feel/sound of a cube is just as important as performance to me. If I don't feel like I would enjoy solving on a cube and I can't feel someone else's I generally won't go out of my way to get one. It's unfortunate that I got back into cubing post-rona because there's a million cubes I'd love to try but just can't :(

Theres a pretty interesting 57mm cube coming out soon...

Gan 357M :OOOOO
