Hi BigDazUK,

Welcome! That’s the method I first learned. You can probably get down to about 1:30 with that method. A while back I found this beginner’s method, which I recommend instead because its a little less complicated:

This is pretty much exactly what I'm doing right now.

Thanks for the messages everyone. I'm getting a little frustrated at the moment. I'm able to do the last layer in 30 seconds pretty comfortably. The initial cross is taking about about 10 seconds, which is ok for now. It's the last 4 corners and the 2nd layer which are way too slow. It's taking me around a minute just for that. I'm hoping that if I keep solving, eventually something will click with it. I don't feel like learning the F2L yet. I'm still learning all the algs for 2 look OLL and PLL.

I'm enjoying the journey anyway, that's the main thing. Operation Sub 1min is in full swing.

Update:

I watched this video and it all made sense. I'm now solving f2l intuitively using the techniques. Not full F2L but certainly more optimal than the beginner method. I feel with this and plenty of practice, I'll be able to get under a minute no problem.

This shows how many options are available to new learners.
I'm new too, and started transitioning from beginner to cfop over the last few weeks.

My cross is still terrible, I need to start doing it on bottom and much faster, but I watched Jperm's video on cfop and then his f2l video and decided to get my f2l learned, now its my strongest part of my solve.

I've gotten most of the 2 look oll algs learned and enjoy doing those, still no pll so after an enjoyable f2l my solve is a disgusting mix of algs and beginner stuff (which often clash and work against each other).

I'm going to search out some cross videos, its definitely the worst part of my solve

Ps, welcome, I'm also from uk.

What kind of times are you averaging?

Update, just over a week into my speedcubing career and I'm making decent improvements. I'm averaging 1:36 currently for last 10 solves, I never take more than 2 mins anymore. Fastest is 1:13. I challenged myself to go under 1 minute within a month of starting and I'm sure if I keep practicing I'll do it.

I'm doing intuitive F2L, usually finishing that between 50 and 60 seconds and then using 4look last layer. I've got 13 of the 16 4lll algs memorised. I just need to learn the last 3 and get faster.

I'm getting there :)

im doing intuitive f2l right now, i use beginner cfop. But i need some practice cause it takes me like 50 seconds so im same like you.
and also do alot of practice so you get consistent i do practice and now i aerage sub 1 min and my pb is 50 seconds
use jperm.net for your 4lll algs btw its good its also where i learned my 4lll algs

I am using jperm.net for the 4lll algs. Also learnt most of everything else I know from his youtube channel.

Hi Daz.
Short answer, more than a minute, but less than two.
Full answer, I'm not actually timing accurately, I wanted to get mostly out of beginner method and into enough of cfop before timing as for me I'm enjoying the satisfaction of learning new parts of cfop and knowing I'm improving my solves without it being about time for now.
I took the plunge with "cross on bottom" and am pleased I did, it is much easier and more satisfying, my f2l was becoming good, I had to rotate less and was looking ahead a bit when I knew I had a pair solved and could bang them into place with muscle memory.
I have sorted my issues with last layer and learned enough algs to put together a reasonable 4lll.
All told I was going great, then.... Colour neutral.
I had read enough advice guides which almost all suggested the sooner colour neutral is learned, the better, as it gets harder, so this week I took the plunge and my solves became sluggish, but tbh not nearly as bad as I thought.
I'm going to stick with it, as I believe the long term benefits to my solve will be worth it.
How do you currently time yourself? Stopwatch? Actual stackmat? Laptop?
I don't have any of these tbh, even my phone (temp old one) doesn't have a stopwatch and it wont run scripts for online stopwatches, I might get a cheap stopwatch.
