Hey guys,

Sorry for the clickbait-esque thread title but I figured that will help this post get some views

As you can probably tell, I think people should stop making their "quest for/progess/leap towards(lol)" threads, at least the way they are currently. In the past few months I've noticed a lot of people making several of these kinds of threads for each event or goal they are working towards, and I personally think this generates a lot of unnecessary threads, and is an unsustainable practice if everyone started making threads like this. I also personally find it really clutters the forum.

I want to be clear though that I'm not against these types of threads, just the way most people have made them. Imagine if the next top sum of ranks cuber joined the forum today and made a quest thread for every event. That would be like 20 new threads just from one person. Now imagine several other people joining and doing this. The forum would get pretty messy quickly.

So here's my suggestion: Make one personal progress thread in the following format:

Username's Personal Progress Thread ( Anything unique, interesting, or specific to you, like algsets, events, methods etc.)

I think this would help keep the amount of quest threads created a lot lower, and keep the forums a little less cluttered. Another alternative could be just a dedicated "Progress" threads forum category, but I think that would be unnecessary.

anyway, let me know what you guys think. Hopefully I don't get attacked for this lol. I just want to avoid the forum just getting filled with progress threads!

I'll change my thread then, for my everyday cubing progress.

I made a thread, but I am planning on tracking all of my progress for every event in it, so (I think) that's okay?
That's what I think people should do. The problem isn't the creation of a thread or two, but if we don't normalize creating just one personal progress thread per person then the forum could get really messy as time passes. Just one person could make 20 threads just covering the WCA events.

Do you think a sub-45 triangular Francisco OH thread would be unique enough?
I think that's definitely unique, but if you don't see yourself continuing it for the long-term I wouldn't personally make a thread for it since the thread would just die quickly.

I agree with @OreKehStrah . This is unique, but only if you're sure you're going to stick with it long-term should you make a specific thread.

There's a bunch out there, but almost none of them are active pretty much the only consistent ones are Porqupine's, mine(if you can call it a quest thread), M&Ms, and a couple new ones that are likely to die soon. It's not that big of a deal since there aren't many active at a time, even if sometimes someone revives it, it usually dies soon.

I do think there should be a Quest sub-forum though. Also if pjk eventually implements the suggestion of being able to see posts from only certain subforums then people could block out quest thread subforum posts

There's also a goals thread, which is great for short or long term goals.
And you know, your status in your profile where you can post your updates. I think most 'quest' threads could probably be condensed into profile posts.

With regard to threads in general, I don't think we need a new sub-forum for quest threads. There are only two at the moment that I think are really worth keeping. The petrus thread and the YruRu thread. Both are with non conventional methods, and both are trying to get to a point that is pretty objectively 'fast'.

Sub 20 OH or color neutrality or sub 45 Triangular Francisco are not terribly unique or objectively fast. Those are things you can post about once in the goals thread and keep a link in your signature, or post updates every day/week in your profile status (420 words arent a lot but make two posts if you need to).
