Hey guys, I've been cubing for half a year now and use the Petrus Method to achieve sub 50 solves. I'm not sure why I'm posting this except that the admin told me, but I'm also going to turn this into a tips thread. So...any useful tips????

Edit: I'll make it clearer that I only started seriously cubing in May. I learnt the LBL over the course of a few months round the end of 2018, then lost interest for a while. I picked cubing back up when my brother challenged me to a cubing race (I got a sub 2 min).

Friend, You need to achieve your time to below what you are expecting, I am also doing cubing for half of the years, it's been 185 days when I start cubing on 25 December to today. I am sub 30 on 3x3 with(color neutral). You need to learn many algorithms and improve your memory skills. The memory skills are useful for BLD also but, it quite improve your mental skills also.
My tips to memorize, think a picture and make a story of it.

Not many people here use Petrus so it’ll hard to get good advice. It’d be good to know what your splits are though (how long it takes you, on average, to complete each step). I myself never achieved much more than sub-30 avg with petrus, but one thing that did help me was learning how to block build with Roux. You don’t have to switch but it certainly helps to explore other methods.

I tried ages ago, got stuck on step 4b, but yeah, the 3x2x1s are good to know for use. I ve also tried a bit of CFOP, and i find it a bit repetitive. But lol, my times got faster after experimenting, from coincidence or the experimentation i dunno. So yeah, I ll look into it. Gtg now

Ok, my splits are really varying. If I do good on look ahead, my first block is done within 6 secs. If i don't, then around 9-10 secs. Then my second block is done around the same time(I find it harder for some reason). EO at max takes 5 secs, then finishing F2l is around 12 secs. I do the last bit intuitively. Finally, my LL is 10 - 15 secs. :).
What I'm doing now is learning full PLL and trying to find a better strategy for 2x2x3. (I pair up a corner and edge(I bring the corner up to U layer first) then either insert the last edge in or make a square 2x2x1 then swing it in.)
That was very long, but hopefully explains stuff.

Targeting individual steps seems beneficial. Put the timer away and work on block-building for a while maybe. Also, you can work on finishing F2L by just doing 2-gen scrambles. Most timers will even generate those. Do you use the traditional petrus LL? I think it’s CP, CO, EP

Nah. Ocll and Pll works fine.

Ok yeah. I think my 2x2x3 is the worst. I ve learnt almost all of the step 4 cases and have a good strategy for 2x2x2 with good lookahead, but just cant do the extra 3 pieces to make the 223. Got tips?

Ok thx. But I'm probably not going to switch cos i want to be unique :). Pls dont start debating

I'm not here to influence people to switch methods. So you guys out there using CFOP, Roux or ZZ, etc, do what you want
Lol, thats why i picked it.

Can I just ask people (just for fun) what cubes do you have?????
I have a MoYu AoLong V2
Nostalgia. Just looking at these posts make me cringe. Looks like I’m treating the forums like a chat room...
