So the WCA just announced that they'll be taking in applications for all continental championships:
https://www.worldcubeassociation.org/posts/applications-for-continental-championships-2020
I don't know if they did a similar thing two years ago, but this is still interesting.

Pre-EDIT:
Who do you think would be plausible candidates for each one?
Here's my (probably completely wrong) opinion on plausible candidates.

Europe- Belarus or Russia. I think that we may have a euros in eastern Europe this time. I see Belarus as a really good candidate after their world's application and seeing the likely venue. (well this one was pretty off)

North America- I actually think Canada or Mexico would go for it, cause US would have Nats to think about which is a pretty big competition.

South America- SA is more of a coin toss. The region has been developing a lot and i definitely wouldn't be surprised to see a country which isn't Brazil or Argentina have a go.

Oceania- Since world's are in Australia i think New Zealand would be a more likely candidate. But I wouldn't be surprised if Australia still gets it at the end of the day.

Asia- China are definitely does i see as most likely

Africa- New up and coming region. I think the more established country is South Africa which is why i see them as the 'biggest' candidate, but i wouldn't be surprised if North
African countries give it a go.

EDIT:
WCA has now announced the candidates for every region:
https://www.worldcubeassociation.or...od-closed-for-continential-championships-2020

I was wrong with some correct with others.
Here's my 'updated' opinions:

Europe- Read through their application... Very good not much to say. Don't think there will be any issues. Should be confirmed by end of august

North America- Kind of what i expected. US is focused on Nats so yh not much to say. If it gets confirmed i hope some people from the US attend it (if it's not the same weekend as nats lol)

South America- No applications. Kind off hoped for maybe someone to apply but still a developing region

Oceania- Happy to see Auckland applied... Hope everything is fine and they get it

Asia- This one is very interesting. As expected China applied but also 3 other countries. Korea, Kazakhstan and Malaysia all have fairly developed regions so i think anyone could take it.

Africa- Not too surprised with that. Region still fairly underdeveloped so yh.

LMK what you guys think about the applications!!

I'm kinda lowkey hoping Euros is in western Europe, but I wouldn't be too discouraed to go somewhere else. Russia doesn't seem likely though imo as it would be the only country where Europeans require a visum which I wouldn't want to go and get.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is the Continental Championships?
Championships for entire continents.

So, are these competitions replacing Asian and European Championships?

As a North American, I don't know enough about cubing in Mexico to say whether they would be able to hold such a large competition. I feel like somewhere centralish to the continent would be best, like Chicago or Dallas. I know Chicago's cubing scene isn't big, so that probably won't happen, and I don't know anything about Texas cubing.
Also, I know that speculation based on popular cities has absolutely zero merit, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

how are they replacing anything these are just the continuation of these competitions?
I don't know, that's why I asked the question.
Yeah, that doesn't really make any sense.

It just seemed weird how they didn't specify that they would still be called European & Asian Champs. I didn't know if they were going to be called Continental Championships 1/6 (1/7 ?!?!) or something like that.

Yeah. It’d be cool if they were held in the northeast, specifically in the far northeast (i.e. New England, because we have quite a thriving cubing scene here) The last important comp held here was nats 2013, and that was a while ago. Maybe in 2021 because of nats 2019 in Baltimore? But I think boston is due for another major champs.

If the US were to hold the Continental Championship, I’d wish it would be held in Texas since we also have quite the Cubing Scene. Southern Champs ended yesterday and lots of people came, so, I wouldn’t be surprised if Texas held the Continental Championship.

The main reason why i don't see the US applying is because of nationals. It has been a reason for them not applying for world's so it wouldn't surprise me if this was the case aswell. Mexico has had pretty large competitions but i still see Canada as most likely if they were interested.

Due to the fact that they've been already there not sure, but I think they'll just call it Euro's or European championships (apply this logic to other continents).
But as the overseeing organization it's kinda logical that the WCA wants to gain some extra control over them and try to give the less active continents a better chance at organizing something on the continental level.
What I mean with less active is e.g. Africa for obvious reasons as it's up and coming, but less developed in it's cubing scene, but also NA which has very active cubing comunities, but nothing is being done on the continental level.

LOL I kind of pick up on that from the name, but how is it different then Worlds, and what is the premise of them?

Because we can.
No in all seriousness, why not if there is worlds why bother having national championships? These kind of questions can be easily asked, but it's just a fun way to measure yourself compared to the rest of the world, continent or country
I'll ask you another question, why is there a European championship for Football?

So in essence it is similar to worlds but on a slightly smaller level? I get your point about the European Championships for Football/Soccer (which I like that point), but my slight confusion about this all is in regards to Worlds, because for worlds any continent can apply just as for this championship, so why is this called continental championships vs. Worlds, if during Worlds application time anyone can apply?

Lastly, I feel like there is something very obvious I am missing, but for some reason am still confused, so please pardon my questions. Also, I am all for this and if given the change to help or go to it I am all for, so hopefully my questions does not come off wrong, but rather just dumb and confused, lol.

Do you understand that for continental championships, there will be six of them (one for each continent), while for Worlds there will be just one? Sorry, it's very obvious, but maybe that's what you're missing?

O I see, gosh I am dumb! That makes a lot more sense then before and thank you very much for pointing out the obvious (which I was missing and should have seen):) So it is more like the Regional Championships here in the US, right?
