What is the average cuber like?

Please fill out this Google form survey. I will post my results if I get enough responses.
First off, Nice survey that you put together. For the "Favorite event" question, I put Pyraminx because at the moment I am really enjoying it, but there is not one event that I like over the other, so if I had to chose I would say that I like all events, and they are all equally enjoyable for me. I do not think that, that matter to much, but I figured that I would let you know. Thanks.

The average cuber isn't a member of this forum.
Tabe is right. Your survey isn't statistically valid because you're only targeting a small portion of the population, and this forum isn't really geared toward beginners. There are more reasons it isn't statistically valid but that's the biggest one :p

Why though? 10 years ago the average cuber was certainly member of this forum. What has happened since?
There's r/cubers, which is flooded with memes, and there's the associated Discord channel with thousands of active users. There're also the Facebook groups; CF is the big one and I think there's also a smaller spin-off? And don't forget about all the kids who only watch cubing videos on YouTube.

Nowadays, there's like maybe three? four? world-class cubers who post here once in a while (e.g. the bigBLD/MBLD gods). My half-baked hypothesis is that maybe people feel more compelled to type out a "full" post, versus short sentences that don't take a lot of effort/thinking, when posting here compared to other communities.

I would argue 10 years ago, the average cuber wasn't a member here then either.

I would bet maybe - MAYBE - 10% of the people at the comps I've been to are a member here.

And let's expand that a bit - there are TONS of people in the Philippines and other countries that are cubers but aren't members here.

Basically, what I'm saying is that it's real easy to think the community on this board is representative of cubing as a whole. It's not.

I haven't tried magnets in any puzzle extensively.
Can you add an option: I don't know

I don't keep large sessions running on my timer, so my average is 0.

Also like maybe add a question for main method, methods know, and proficiency at said methods.

CF isn't even remotely close to being "the big one". CF has 8000 members. Rubik's Cube (Speedcubing) has 38000.
CF is the main group for active cubers. RCS is just for newbies and has way less quality posts. PF is the "Smaller spin-off." PF was made when Christian Pizzasegola was banned from CF. Most of the members are in CF also, and they post the less high quality, more random posts in PF. PF for the most part is less strict, but they still do have some rules I don't think they should have. The inner PF community is the only real PF community, consisting of lots of cubers you know, such as Cale Schoon, Daniel Rose-Levine, Paris Dorn, Chris Choi, and more! It also has some cubes not many people know, except for the community, like Dylan Cossin, and Andrew Rizo.

Lol someone's main is the Zhanchi , no offence but it's 2018...
I started playing with my Zhanchi and it became my main pretty fast. It took a long time to get used to my normal main. Don't judge, because some cubes can be better than others, since its a matter of personal preference. Also, they might not have the money to buy other cubes.
Also, saying "no offence" does not do anything. In the end, one way or the other, the person still feels a little bad.

I myself am part of the Discord server, and it is big.

I haven't tried magnets in any puzzle extensively.

^^ this is a good idea, since I myself do not have any magnetic cubes, nor have i tried any. also, i do keep large sessions, though im just confused about the question in general. what do i put? my pb ao100? im just going to leave it blank for now. @ToastasaurusCuber

I read both extensively and would say the % of quality posts is about the same. CF is (seemingly) 80% polls like "how often do you get haircuts?"
RCS does seem to have less of those posts, point taken, but when CF does something about cubing, it tends to be something pretty good. I have been avoiding facebook lately for some reasons, but when I was on, I stared seeing some people finding CF and posting in it like they did in RCS. RCS does stay on topic more, but they have lots of newer people, and younger people. Also, keep in mind, CF isn't even a cubing group, just a group for cubers.

There is a Person who is cubing since January of 1902
I'd like to hear that story
