Hi all. I'm new here. I started as a boy learning from a book a method for 3x3x3 cube. Recently I got back into it and remembered the 3x3x3 with the help of the internet. I then got a 4x4x4 which I also learned with some internet help. I now have a Fisher cube and a couple of other derivatives which I've solved alone. I used the Mathologer YouTube video to create my own algorithms and got an App which has allowed me to solve bigger cubes, pizzas, etc., etc..

But I'm stuck on the 3x3x5 in the image. The cube is completely solved except for the two pieces you can see, but I can't find a way to fix them.

I've tried introducing parity issues on edges of layers 2 and 4 and resolving, but it hasn't helped. I can get to other simple configurations too (opposite edges swapped, top and bottom edges swapped, as per image but with two layers swapped), but none lead me to a solution.

Any help.

PS: notation-wise I know UDFBLR and understand that u and d refer to layers 2 and 4. Please explain any other notation you use.

I've contacted the guy that wrote the app. He says that scrambles are formed by applying legal moves only, so there should be a solution.

To recreate the position from a solved cube:

FB' UD' f U'D F'B
FB' UD' B' U'D L2 F'B U
FB' L2 UD' B U'D F'B U2

The "f" moves rotates the four corners independently of the rest of the cube. All other moves are of slices next to the centres.

It's all easier to see using slice moves, but I don't have notation for that.

I'm sorry, but I can't follow the above - can you elaborate?
It seems like you must be holding the puzzle with a 3x3 face as F, but I've tried it on a physical 3x3x5 and it doesn't work. The way I read it, the part I've bolded above doesn't do anything.
I've never seen this position, and I'm wondering if the app allows some moves which wouldn't work irl.

3x3 face uppermost as in the picture in the OP. After the first four moves we have the following picture. The f rotates only those for corner pieces and nothing else.

The next four moves U'D F'B take the cube back to the initial position except that each corner piece has moved 90 degrees clockwise.

I think that f is impossible on a physical cube.
