I have built a Ghost 3x3x5 using a Cube4You cube.
While solving, I encountered a problem that I could solve intuitively, but only in a very infefficient way.
Is there an algorithm to insert piece 2 into where piece 8 is located, without affecting layer A and B? Layers C, D and E are unsolved at this stage, because I am solving the layers from middle outwards, in order: A, B, C, D and E, so the ones outside of these pieces are not solved yet.
Edit: In the meantime, this is what I came up semi-intuitively:
Solution 1:
This Algorithm inserts the Left Top centerpiece from Layer C into the Right Bottom Slot on Layer B. This is oriented such that the drop algorithm is easier to execute.
U refers to the layer including the piece that should be inserted, in this example the layer C and E together.
\[ R2\;U2\;R2\;U’\;(Drop)\;U’\;D’\;(Drop)\;D \]
Solution 2:
If your Cuboid can do 90° turns on the side faces (like this 3x3x5), you can first insert a wrong piece, to pre-turn the center and then the correct one, in order to keep the supercube orientation of the 3x3 center:
\[ S'\;U2\;S\;U\;S'\;U2\;S \]
