Moyu Aolong V2 new (maybe) batch is slow?

Hi guys,

I apologise in advance if this seems like a "nooby" question.

I recently got my first speedcube, the Moyu Aolong V2, as a gift from my friend.
At first, the cube was so fast. It was uncontrollable (coming from a dollar cube), and just glided with every turn. I was very impressed and happy. I could definitely tell it had been lubed out of the box.

However, a little after a week, I noticed the lube had dried out a little. It started being a slightly sticky and was noticeable slower.

I proceeded to disassemble my cube and I rinsed the cubies with water, and left it to dry on my windowsill overnight. I reassembled it, and it still had the slight "sticky" feeling to it.
But this sticky feeling isn't affecting it's smoothness when turning. When turning, it's fairly smooth (although slightly slower because of the lack of lube, and less "glidey"), but when turning the cube very lightly, it seems to stick, and the suddenly move, stopping and starting. I don't remember this happening when I first got the cube, but I don't know if this is just something that happens when lube dries off or when a cube is dry.

This is slightly annoying, and I am questioning if it is the V2 old batch (as it doesn't feel that "fast" and maybe even a bit slow)(but it's definitely miles better than my old cube which can't corner cut and is painfully slow).

Is this a normal occurrence that I should be worried about? Those with Aolong V2s, is this a problem that you are having?

Thanks in advance.

(I've noticed the box looks a little weird)

I recommend just dissasembling the cube and wiping off each piece by hand throughly.

Should I use a wet cloth to do this? Because I've noticed that tissue leaves a few particles behind which could add friction.
Also, is it normal that my Aolong V2 (supposed new batch) is slow when dry? It doesn't seem to glide as much as it did out of the box, but I'm not sure if it's the lube that's doing the magic. There is now a bit of static friction, and dynamic friction has increased as well. Does lube make that much of a difference?

Yeah, lube does make it a bit more glidey. I'd use a dry cotton cloth or an old soft t shirt to clean the cube.

My budget is a little tight, so if I were to get Traxxas 50k wt lubricant and apply that to my pieces, would that make it noticeable faster? Or am I better off buying something like shock oil, or a lighter weight to speed it up? I don't want to make my cube too uncontrollable, so I'm wondering if 50k wt diff oil is going to make a difference to the speed, or if I'm better off getting 30k for both the core and pieces.

If you put Traxxas in, it makes it feel amazing. Take out an edge piece and lube everywhere any contact is made with the core or corner pieces. When you put the edge back in, it will feel really, really slow and bad. Then just do a ton of turns and solves on it. After a couple of days it will become amazing. People who say the Aolong V2 is obsolete are crazy :D

Are you sure adding that much is alright? Won't it make it a bit gummy? Also I'm slightly confused to what you recommend lubing. I've gathered that lubing the core is pretty much a must, and putting a line on an 2 edge pieces and 2 corner pieces, preferably from opposite ends of the cube. I'm actually tempted to put in a few drops on the pieces, but I'm not sure the effect it will have. I'll be getting traxxas 50k soon as my lube for everything.

I never lube the hardware on my cubes. Only because it's way harder and doesn't do as much as other things. Basically anywhere that the pieces make contact put lube. It will be very gummy for a couple days, but then it gets amazing. Chris Olson has a video on it somewhere.
