Searching for a Variety of 3x3s

Should I learn to setup my puzzles?

  • No, the whole reason you're getting more 3x3s is for different feels, right?

So basically I want to have a bunch of 3x3s that have main potential, but are all different. This is for a few reasons:
1) Maybe I'll find a new main, but that's not the point.
2) If I find myself not liking my main as much, I have multiple options already available.
3) I can do Multi-3x3 relays without having to use a Rubik's.
4) People won't complain when I race them and I have the speedcube.
Currently, I have a Thunderclap, WeiLong GTS, and both Rubik's 3x3s.
I'm already going to pre-order the Gans 356 Air, and now I'm looking for some cubes to add to the que. Some I'm thinking about are:
1) AoLong GT
2) Tornado
3) Thunderclap V2 (to replace my crapped out V1)
What do you guys suggest for different feels/turning styles, and are the above 3 cubes worth getting? Remember, I want them to be main potential, but not clones. Also, should I set them up? Poll above.

If you're gonna get new cubes try the fangshi jieyun, aolong v2, or meiying. Those have different feelings. I'd skip the aolong gt. Its okay but it's not that great. If you're gonna get the thunderclap v2, don't get the tornado, they are very similar. But learn to set up puzzles. You can change the feel of a puzzle quite drastically and save a bunch of money. Plus, there are some feelings you only get with setup.

I figured the V2 would be more of a crowd favorite than the GT. If the Thunderclap V2 and the Tornado are similar, I'll just get the Thunderclap for the price. What are the Thunderclap V2, Meiying, and JieYun like? I've used my cousin's Aolong V2, and it's pretty good, I almost bought one before the Gans went up for pre-order. Should I get the Thunderclap with it?

Idk much about the tcv2 bUT Chris Olson and others have said it's like the tornado. The meiying is a light, fast cube, great for oh. The jieyun is a underrated cube. It's fast, scratchy, etc. Another cube and one that I'm thinking of making my main is a tanglong. Its medium fast, cruchy-smooth and, really satisfying. I modded mine and it's awesome

Ok, the list is now Thunderclap V2, JieYun, Tanglong, MeiYing, Aolong V2. And before this post, I've never even seen/heard any references to the JieYun, you weren't kidding about it being underrated!
PS: I made a folder in my bookmarks for this lol

Yep! Lol. Btw, you'll prolly like the Gans once you get used to it. I've been using the Gans356sv1 as my main since December last year

I really hope I like it, spending $26 on a 3x3 is a lot! I waited for the Air cause it's supposed to be more stable. I really hope more people reply to the thread, ya know, the more the merrier and all.

To apply stickers for 3x3 put the center stickers in place and then the edges can be lined up with the center stickers. Then the corners a lined up between the two edges that are adjacent.

Thanks for the info, but how to I get them off first? I don't wanna rip a perfectly good set of stickers.

You use either a plastic sticker/decal remover or use like an xacto knife to peel the sticker off
Thanks dude.
BTW: For my bday, I got a BaiTai Clock, and it has a bad pin and cracked plastic on both sides. I ended up getting a $13 w/o sending the Clock back, so since I don't care about clock, I got a Thunderclap V2 and a QiYi Sail (because why not use it all?) basically for free!
Also: I was thinking about getting the assorted logo set from thecubicle.us, but I also need a Pyra, 2x2, and Mega. (7x7 also, but eh). It would be a MoYu Pyra, WeiPo 2x2, and Galaxy Mega. I'd get the Pyra and 2x2, then wait for the Galaxy cause Mega isn't that great. I'd buy 3x3s, but I'm using a YKL World (never heard of it) Mega, SS Pyra (which isn't bad, just kinda tight, and it's white plastic) and I'm using a 4x4 as a 2x2 cause I don't have one. Oops, went off thread-topic.

No problem. Are you a relatively new cuber? Also happy birthday! I'd get the weipo and the galaxy now. Then you can get the moyu magnetic pyraminx, clock, and skewb later.

1) Yeah, my first solve was around the end of March.
2) Thanks :D
3) Can do, and I have a QiYi Skewb, and I like it.
4) Isn't QiYi also making a clock and magnetic Pyra?

Cool. Anytime you need help with something feel free to ask! Me and various others here would love to help. I've been cubing for almost a year now. I prefer the qiyi over the moyu because the turning is smoother and less click so the magnetic one should be even better. And yes, qiyi is too although I feel like people will probably use the moyu cubes more than the qiyi. I'm gonna get both though.

Thanks, and while MoYu makes good NxN puzzles, they haven't branched out in the way QiYi has, and that makes me kind of like QiYi better as a company. I have their Skewb and Square-1 (who doesn't have the QiYi square-1?), and they are awesome.

Should I pre-order the QiYi Valk 3? I don't really do Mega anyway, so it could wait. 2x2 is a must though, and I can do them both.

I'd personally wait and watch reviews for the valk. If I were you then I would buy a kungfu yuehun 2x2 and a shengshou aurora megaminx and save some money. The kf 2x2 is a great performer with a low price. The ss aurora mega Minx is also really good. At first I used to hate megaminx. Then I learned it and started to practice it and now 3x3 and megaminx are my main events.

I looked around for a bit, and I came to the conclusion that for $33, I can get the Aurora Mega, YueHun 2x2, and the MoYu Magnetic Pyra, and that seems like a great deal. I'd be getting the 2x2 now, and the Pyra and Mega in September. Thoughts?
