Anyone who has a 42mm Zhanchi and doesn't like a cube that is really tight has a problem. The springs in the 42mm Zhanchi offer you the choice of tight, really tight, or stupidly tight.

I've read some people have trimmed the springs, removing a coil. I took a slightly different approach that may be easier. I replaced the springs with Gans 356v2 S8 springs.

I haven't lubed it up fully yet, mainly because I may want to get some S9s instead. But the feel is so much better it is amazing. I'd always heard the 42mm Zhanchi is a great cube, and with the right springs, I believe it now. The cube feels amazing.

I will warn you: Assembling the cube after is a pain. At least it was for me.

Gans Springs can be bought at The Cubicle for $1.50.

The gap between the pieces must be proportional to their size. It isn't much tight than the regular size for me, and it work nice. If you try to loose it too much it will pop like the regular size does.

Actually, I use fairly "tight" gaps, but the tension on the cube itself is lower, because the springs exert less force. The gaps I used to have were so large the screws were gouging the center caps. That can't be good :).
