[WR] Feliks Zemdegs 3x3 OH single 6.88

Yes, it is a random state scramble, the only difference is that it isn't THE random state scramble. I don't know if you get wht I mean.

By that logic, every scramble is random state, which is not the intention of the regulation

Well, congrats on finally getting it!

I'm looking forward to the next announcement from the WCA about similar situations in the future...

Ok Matt, so we want to fix the situation, but we don't want to DNF Feliks's solve when it's not his fault.

If we had caught it somehow at the competition, we would give him an extra scramble. We couldn't give him the original scramble, since there's a nontrivial relationship between the original and the mistake scramble.

So what we want ideally is for him to be given a completely fresh scramble.

How is that more fair than him receiving the mistake scramble?

Isn't the mistake scramble (assuming it wasn't an act of cheating) just as fair as a new random extra scramble?

+1

Very much agree

Example (prepared by me) with the same mistake:
1# L' U R' F' B R' U' D' F' U2 L' B' U2 (R) U' R B U2 L U' F
2# L' U R' F' B R' U' D' F' U2 L' B' U2 (R') U' R B U2 L U' F
What now? One incorrect move. Fist scramble for all (optimal solution - 17 moves), second for one person (optimal solution - 8 moves). Someone can find this solution. yay WR ~3sec! Is it fair?

I'm OK with the occasional solve with an accidentally incorrect scramble being accepted (unless the scramble becomes extremely difficult, or is obviously cheated). If we could somehow DNF every solve with an incorrect scramble, competitions would take much longer and there would be a ton of extra solves done. We need an automated way to check it, but that's hard enough already.

And I think zeri's example is pretty cool, actually. I wonder how he found it. Here's another one that hits that 13 move limit...
1) U L2 B2 L2 U' R2 U B2 U' R2 U2 R' U2 R F2 R2 U' L U F' - 17? moves
2) U L2 B2 L2 U' R2 U B2 U' R2 U2 R U2 R F2 R2 U' L U F' - 13 moves and super easy

Because what you guys are doing is exactly what happened here, and shows that 6.88 is undeserved and it should go to the LL skip 8.2 since it used a much harder computer generated scramble. The WCA has made its decision, respect that, try coming up with ways miscrambles can be avoided in the future instead of generating easy "misscrambles" with non-random base scrambles

Obviously we should try to follow the scrambles and have the images there, but it doesn't seem to make any difference whether or not that rule is broken. Solves aren't penalised in any way.

Why would the solve be penalized though? The solver didn't even know if he or she received an incorrect scramble. (Unless, it's way too easy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXqUVFKofz4 )
