What does DNF stand for? What about other abbriviations and cubing jargon?

Have you all forgotten THIS post? Also, What URL can I find the WCA Rules? Is it just the regulations? Lastly, how do I get my best times and stuff near your name at the end of your post? I am just asking for someone to guild me around the site I guess.

FMC = Fewest Moves Challenge. Source.

+2 is a time penalty of two seconds when a competitor does one of the following eight things:
- The competitor inspects for longer than 15 seconds but not exceeding 17 seconds.
- The competitor starts the timer while touching the puzzle.
- The competitor starts the timer while the puzzle is resting on the timer.
- The competitor starts the timer with incorrect hand placement, where correct hand placement is with fingers on sensors and palms down.
- The competitor stops the timer with incorrect hand placement, where correct hand placement is with fingers on sensors and palms down.
- The competitor stops the timer without fully releasing the puzzle.
- The competitor stops the timer while the puzzle is misaligned within one move in Outer Block Turn Metric (exception: Rubik's Clock).
- The competitor, after stopping the timer but before the judge inspects the puzzle's resting state, touches the puzzle without making any moves (at the discretion of the judge).
These time penalties can accumulate to as much as a 16-second penalty.

DNF stands for "Did Not Finish", which is used in many different scenarios. The WCA Regulations has articulated the DNF-able situations. Results can be retroactively DNFed due to investigation as well.

Of course, these judgments (+2 and DNF) are only the standard for official WCA competitions. There is debate whether or not to include these judgments while doing solves outside of competition, but it comes down to personal preference.
Oh, ok. I always thought it was just fewest move count. Thanks for letting me know! Also it is now my goal to get a +16, I'll have to get a good judge that will notice all of them though haha.

Just do it once, don't do it for all of your solves and if you do, get a different judge each time.

A quote from the top of the Regulations (link, again):

The WCA Regulations contain the full set of Regulations that apply to all official competitions sanctioned by the World Cube Association.

There are no "WCA Rules". There are the WCA Regulations, which must be followed at every official competition.

Your original post is awfully ambiguous; I'm not sure what "it" in "I just want to get familiar with it" is referring to exactly.

We're happy to help, but you gotta do some homework too.

What do all the WCA "abbreviations" mean?

Hello,
I was just wondering what all the abbreviations and whatnot is on the WCA site.
This image refers to the ones I am talking about.
what.jpg
also, what do the numbers below them mean.
Thank you.

National record - Continental record - World record

You should be able to work out what the numbers mean from that.

The R only stands for record if it is listing previous records.
It actually means "Ranking" in the example given.
