On a recent episode of Good Job Brain! (see my Podcasts post for more info) it was revealed to me that there exist specific names for people who collect various things. Some of these include:

philatelist: stamps
vexillologist or vexillionaire: flags
numismatist: coins
iconophile: images, illustrations
phillumenist: matchbooks, matchboxes
deltiologist: postcards

The etymology of the words are interesting (e.g. philatelist = philo [lover of] + atelo [exemption from payment]).

I am interested in what the community thinks a collector of twisty puzzles would be called.
Go ahead and have fun with creating a fun name!

Here's mine: diffiverticulist (difficile - difficult, challenging; verticula - swivel, joint)

It sure doesn't beat something as amazing as vexillionaire. I'm sure you guys can beat that. Let's hear 'em!

Those are Latin words. The examples you gave are all Greek. ;)

edit: vexillologist comes from both.

edit2: Can't think of anything good that's short. Maybe polychromenigmaphile for multi-coloured + puzzle + lover. I don't know a good way of incorporating "twisty".

In french, we say "Céphaloclastophile" for someone who's collecting puzzles (any kind of puzzles, which are called "head-breakers" / "headaches makers" in french (casse-tête) )
( kephalế "head"; klastos "break"; philo "lover of")

So here's mine : Turnosphaloclastophile (tórnos "a turning-tool", kephalế "head"; klastos "break"; philo "lover of")
And here's a shorter one : Turnosenigmaphile (tórnos "a turning-tool", aínigma "enigma / riddle / puzzle"; philo "lover of")

Wow! There's already a name for general puzzle collecting! I had no idea. That makes your suggestions work a bit more since they are specified tweaks of an existing word. Me likey.

I lol'd. Get a better job, tho! ;)
