Hi, I'm a 18 year-old french cubing beginner =). I got into cubing 2 months and a half ago, and I first spent about two weeks trying to come up with a method of my own (I had never read anything about solving it). I actually succeeded and found a very long method requiring about 150-200 moves (it was a layer-by-layer method, and my way of solving the last layer was orienting and permuting the edges at the same time, then permuting the corners, and finally orienting them).
Then a friend of mine (average at 15 seconds) taught me the beginner's method, and a week or two later I learned F2L. Last week I was averaging at about 38 seconds, but I haven't timed myself since then because I've learned full PLL and I'm working on PLL recognition and also on my F2L. I've actually been working on recognizing PLL cases just by looking at two sides of the cube, so this makes me a bit slow right now ^^.

I've pretty much been tipping all of my free time into cubing since last 2 months (during hollidays I can easily spend more than 6 hours a day). I'm not sure if I'll ever get tired of it... :D

EDIT: I forgot to mention I've been color neutral since a couple of weeks ( I'm not sure if it was a good idea to become color neutral that early, but I'm just too impatient anyway...)

Becoming color neutral early is a great idea! It might be a little bit harder to get familiar with F2L and LL but it will be easier to get fast when you are familiar with them.

Hi. Like penguinz said, being colour neutral is a great idea. The faster you get the harder, before I was sub 20 (like avging 21-22 seconds) I tried THREE times to become colour neutral but I failed and quit ^_^

If you get the time, you should look into blindfold solving. It's lots of fun and you can build skills that you can use in real life (memorization, imagination, concentration in MBLD) plus, you can show off to your friends :P If you want some help send me a PM, I'll be happy to assist you :)

Welcome to the forums!

Congratulations on finding your own method, even if it kinda already existed. You should look into the other methods too, like Petrus, Roux, ZZ, and Heise

Ok then, looks like it might not have been too early :) . (It's especially nice when you come across a one-move green/blue/red/orange cross :D)

Yeah I'm really looking forward to blindfold solving, but I think I'll wait a bit until I get better at cubing. I'm really interested in everything that is related to memorizing things so I'm sure I'll have fun with blindfold solving =) (It might not be directly related to cubing but I've actually learned a couple of hundreds of Pi digits, and I'm pretty sure the methods I used were similar to those used while multi-blind soliving)

Thank's ! I'll probably try out these methods one of these days, I think I'll wait a little though, I'm already feeling I'm trying to learn too much things at once :D . (I actually tried out Roux's method once, and it was nice seeing a different way of solving the cube ^^)

Hey another french ! It's great to see that I'm not alone on this forum ! :P
I don't know if you can but, 18,19 april there is national at Grenobles ! (your friend is maybe already planning to get there)

Whatever, welcome !

Quel-est ton moyen maintenant? (pardonnez mon francais, j'suis un etudiant de francais)

Ce serait ta moyenne, Quel-est ta moyenne maintenant ? -- moyenne act as a name here (a mean) and it is (feminin) I don't know the english word for that idea.
Et un etudiant en français.

It have to be really hard to learn french, it is a hell of a lot more complicated of a language in comparison to english. Good luck on that sir !

Hi =), yeah I'll probably go there since it's not that far away from where I live and it'll be holliday for me so I should have time. My friend might come too, I haven't asked him yet.

Well as for my average well I don't really time myself right now since I'm still slow at PLL recognition (having started learning full-PLL for a week only), but I just tried timing myself this evening and I got about 39/40 seconds average, with a nice PB of 27.31. I also timed myself for F2L only (including cross) and I got a 24 seconds average for F2L.
The reason I also don't really time myself is because I need to slow down and learn to look ahead during F2L (I tend to rush when I time myself).

(Et comme l'a dit MrMan, "average" se traduit par "moyenne", car sinon avec "moyen" ta phrase signifierait "What is your way now?" =) ).

Hey! and welcome. I'm quite new on the speedsolving.com forums too but I have quite a bit of cubing experience anyway.

What you said about learning Pi digits might be related to cubing if you use a mnemonic system, like the Major System, which is what I use for memorising digits. (I use a modified version.) Yes, mnemonics is a big part of blindfold cubing. As a big fan of blindfold cubing, I recommend trying it out as soon as you feel like you're ready, and I recommend Noah Arthur's (AKA Noahaha) blindcubing videos on You-Tube. Also, if you feel comfortable with both French and English, you'll have many more opportunities for flexibility in mnemonics because of your larger vocabulary; anyway, this will all become more clear when you begin to learn BLD.

Seems like you're improving fast, and keep up the good work - there's always more to learn and practise in the world of physical puzzles.

Yes I use the Major System =). Thank you for recommending me this channel, I'll be sure to chek it out when I start learning blindfolding. (Which should be very soon)
