Yeah... I think he just got lucky with that. He did toss the cube in the air and catch it though.

Well... Yes it did.
He threw the cube in the air, caught it and placed it and placed it under the cover without looking what the orientation was. So the orientation was randomly generated.
It happened to be in his solving orientation already but sometimes that just happens...
