So, you barely ever see somebody who can solve a 3x3 in 15 seconds, but solves a 2x2 in just as much time. Personally, I hadn't practiced my 5x5 in months but did lots of 3x3 and (after refreshing the parity algs in my memory) I got an average of 5 that was my PB by almost a minute. So, how much does improving in one event help you with the others? What about stuff like BLD solves helping you with sighted? And how much does learning knowledge in other areas (like musical instruments, video games, speedstacking (lol)) help you with cubes?

I find after practising a bigcube (e.g. 6x6), I get much better times on a slightly smaller bigcube (e.g. 5x5) because looking ahead and turning is so much easier.
I don't really know how practising 3x3 would help other puzzles; maybe you could say practising 3x3 and 2x2 helps with TPS...?

Piano I'm sure based on lots of hand and eye coordination, and think ahead! Video games help, but it's more of a distraction. Playing video games helps you want to play more video games and less cubing...too addicting IMHO.

I think that there is a huge amount of transferability between the events, especially big cubes. I think that 3x3 improves pretty much any other event.

This is pretty boarder line: But I had my first 3BLD success with 14 minutes. After some practice it when down quickly to 5 minutes. Then I only practiced MBLD and my average went down to ~2:11. With very few (<10, within ~1.5-2 months) single BLD solves.

If you're interested, this is pretty much "basic speed". If you look it up you'll find stuff about it.

I'm sorry, I suck at looking up cube-related things. All I found was driver's ed stuff and when I added "cube" it came up with "basic speed cubing techniques" and the like. Could you point me more directly to a source of information on the topic? thanks.
