I set my cube down somewhere and 5 minutes later it was smashed up into pieces 50 feet away from the original spot, with several torpedos and 2 edge pieces missing (4 half edge things)

Some people are jerks.

I then bought another cube from Amazon. My Zhanchi was made completely unusable.

"You can break my cube all you want, BUT YOU CAN'T STOP ME FROM CUBING!!!"

Damn, someone tried to solve it and ragequit

Agreed.
what if someone tried to ragequit and solved it?

anyway, that guy should learn some respect for your cubes, maybe set a trap with a video monitored cube and see who comes and messes with it...
They need to learn self control before they can even try to respect my cubes. Good idea though.

What I don't get is why is it seen as acceptable or even funny to go and destroy a cube while destroying a model car someone has created is utterly unacceptable. They are both hobbys which I am interested in. So why is it right to break the property of one but not the other they are both the personal property of the person, which have always been taught to respect.

I for one have shared your experience. One of my so called mates (to properly describe him would require a long story and many words that would more than likely get me banned ) used to never respect any of my cubes that I brought to school. He practically destroyed my knockoff 4x4 (kinda thankful for that) and he was the opposite to my other true mates who would respect what I told them could and couldn't do with my cubes. Really pisses me off. I spent my money on those cubes and the people feel that because it's an obscure and "nerdy" hobby they can go and destroy them.

I just can't comprehend these unnecessary actions. What kinds of people do these things? Even if set my cube down and leave it there for hours, worst case scenario for me is just an accidental corner twist.

There isn't much to sensibly steal in my house. A few cheap laptops which are mainly getting on by a few years, DVDs without cases and an Xbox 360. That and a few thousand pounds worth of cubes nobody is likely to know the value of and would be difficult to sell, without me finding out, even if they did (a few unique items would mean ebay is a no go and a thread on TP would hopefully be enough to stop that from being an option).
One of my worst nightmares would be coming home to my front door slightly ajar and my collection smashed to pieces just because burglars found nothing much in my house and felt like causing some destruction.

When I was in high school I did grading for my German language teacher, who also taught French. My high school was a residential high school, so all students lived on campus. Our school required volunteer hours, and I chose to volunteer as a grader for the intro French and German classes. At the end of the semester my teacher invited me and the other volunteer graders from her classes to her house for a lunch as a thank you. After the lunch, my teacher's husband was giving all of us students a ride back to the school. During the lunch my teacher had me do a demo 3x3 speedsolve, and people liked it. On the ride home, her husband told us all a story about how he had a roommate in college who really liked cubing and had a large variety of twisty puzzles. One day, while his roommate was out, he took all the puzzles and sprayed cooking spray into every single one of them and isn't that just the funniest thing?! lolroflzomg!

I tried to be polite and just smile, but inwardly my reaction was:

I've always inwardly hated the people who, after me telling them "be careful with it", "turn it slowly", "don't break it", ect. they still try to imitate my speed and, naturally, fail. (Come on, I'm not even that fast. My average is what... 20 to 25 seconds?)

One of my friends twists the corners on purpose. He knows it makes the puzzle un-solvable. It is funny, however, when he does a twist combination like +++++--, +++---, +++, or something else that allows it to be solvable. He doesn't really care about the math involved in the corners.

(Spoiler with a kinda freaked out guy in an images)

Funny and stupid at the same time.

One time my "friend" twisted ALL the corners. Turns out that the position happened to be solvable.

Depends which way you twist them.

Someone borrowed my Zhanchi for a while. Was wondering if he was gonna get it back... turned out it popped and some of the pieces fell on a train track.

I've lent someone my Megaminx for a week, that was the best I could give him since he wanted to buy it. Hopefully it's come back in.... however many pieces a Megaminx has.

62 pieces, counting the centers

This one guy was obsessed with corner twisting my Aolong. I brought my pyraminx to school, and he thought he was so clever, twisting all of the "corners" (tips.) Then I solved it in 8 seconds. He asked why hus corner twists hadn't worked. :fp

You need Oskar’s treasure chest.
You need to check the date on stuff and not bump threads from nearly 4 years ago??

Also looks like I started this one when I was 11. What a blast from the past /s

e: I still vaguely remember the incident and tbh I didn't handle myself very well (rage mode activated etc)
