I'm starting to like 7x7 a lot more, and I've done a bunch of solves over the past week or so, and I've been averaging around 8-9 minutes, and I feel like there are certain parts of my solves I could be doing much better, but I just can't put a finger on it. Here are my pretty detailed splits: (I did a few solves today where I took splits)

F2C- 1:45
N2C- 1:45
L2C- 0:45
F8E: 2:00
L4E: 1:10 (includes parity)
3x3: 35

What can I improve upon? And are there any specific skills that I can practice for a certain step (i.e. On 3x3, lookahead for F2L, TPS for LL)?

Thanks.

Try focusing on your center building efficiency. Once you know what to do for most cases you can just spam tps and get it done. Look at fast people's example solves.

Also, you should be able to do the last bar of the L2C with only one comm. That's not something I know you don't do, I just see a lot of people do it.

Practicing other bigcubes(5x5 and up) isn't a bad idea either. They're all the same concept, so that should help.

Dan Cohen said once that during centers you should turn faster than during edge pairing, so try to look ahead more during edge pairing and work on the efficiency for centers. :)

I recall when I average a little faster than you (around 6-7mins) my splits were:

centres: 3mins (30-40 seconds on each centre)
edges: 3mins total (2mins for F8E and 1min for L4E)
3x3: ~30seconds

Your centres seem pretty slow - I'd say it's the easiest thing that you could improve on right now.

A good tip I always use in my solves for my first centre is to find not the most efficient first bar, but the most efficient SECOND bar. Because the first bar is the easiest to make, preserving a good second bar will not only be faster, but will aid your lookahead.

Try different centre methods. Build a 3x3 centre (like 5x5) then attach a 1x3 to it, then a 1x4 to extend it to a 4x4. Attach another 1x4 and finally make the last 1x5 as normal. In some cases this can be faster than pure bar building.

Or you could just buy an 8x8 and drop 30 seconds immediately :P
