Yes, and on the 4x4 solve too, I hate looking at the timer.

yes it does. Ron says "A5b) While inspecting or solving the puzzle, the competitor must not have any assistance from anyone or any object (other than the surface). Penalty: disqualification of the solve." covers putting a piece of paper over the timer.

Not sure how that counts as "assistance" towards the solve.
