Lim Kai Yi (2018YILI01) [1] is a speedcuber from Malaysia known for his multitude of world records achieved in speedsolving as well as across various other disciplines. [2] He is a 134-time Official Guinness World Record holder as of 2026; also having achieved 2,090 official world record titles in total recognised by 32 separate world record-certification organisations from 10+ countries. [3]


As of 2026, Lim Kai Yi has entered 37 official puzzle speedsolving-related competitions and has officially podiumed 102 times as of 2026, having won 63 golds, 14 silvers, 12 bronzes, 2 fourth-place awards, 3 fifth-place awards, 2 sixth-place awards, 1 seventh-place award, 2 eight-place awards, 1 ninth-place award, 1 eighteenth-place award, as well as 1 nineteenth-place award. At the age of 19 in 2023, Lim Kai Yi was also the youngest individual to have broken the 100-world record milestone at Guinness World Records. [5] His achievements in record-breaking have also been verified by multiple media outlets such as Free Malaysia Today [6], Bernama TV Malaysia [7] etc.


History

Lim Kai Yi started cubing at the age of 12 in 2016 after being introduced to the sport at the 2016 Penang International Science Fair in Penang, Malaysia. He had progressed from only being able to solve Rubik's Snakes to averaging sub-15 by the end of 2017, where he had podiumed in his first competition by becoming the 2nd runner-up at the Rubik's Cube challenge of the 2017 Penang International Science Fair.[8] In 2018, Lim Kai Yi had entered his first WCA competition, being USM Penang Cube 2018; and he had won his first cubing competition in late 2018 through being crowned champion in skewb and 2x2 at the Tech Cuber Challenge II 2018.[9]


Since late 2016, Lim Kai Yi had broken Unofficial World Records (UWRs) / World Bests (WBs) in speedsolving over 200 times in 50+ events and 100+ sub-events, being the leading record-breaker in many disciplines such as solving shape-shifters, shape-mods, cuboids, sliding puzzles, non-twisty puzzles etc.; being best-known for his dominance in events such as the Rubik's Snake, Fisher Cube, Windmill Cube, Axis Cube, 8 Puzzle, 15 Puzzle, Ivy Cube, Mirror Cube, Pyramorphix, Snake Cube, Twist Cube, Inequilateral Cube etc.


In early 2021 at the age of 16, Lim Kai Yi had broken his first official Guinness World Record title in relation to speedsolving, being the "Fastest Time to Solve a 4x5 Klotski Puzzle" with a result of 6.315 seconds. Since then, Lim Kai Yi had went on to achieve more titles at 30+ official world record certification organisations, having achieved the title of the "Youngest Individual to Achieve 100 Official Guinness World Record Titles" in 2023 at the age of 19; wherein he is currently a 134-time Official Guinness World Record holder as of 2026, alongside having achieved 2,090 official world record titles in total.[10]


Since 2025, Lim Kai Yi had also started his career as a professional Rubik's Cube coach, having provided coaching services to over 70 students from China, South Korea, and Malaysia; wherein he also serves as the chief judge for competitions and events organised by STEM CUBE Malaysia.[[11]
