ZB

I would say stick with Fridrich. Maybe learn some edge control. There's been nothing to show that those more advanced methods provide anything in terms of reducing times.
EDIT: Arnaud made a pretty good post about advanced techniques here.

I HIGHLY recommend learning partial edge control (extremely easy) and a few VHF2L cases. VHF2L is the intuitive version of ZBF2L, and since many people (fast ones, even) use intuitive F2L over algorithmic F2L, I see no problem in saying you know ZB with VHF2L and ZBLL only.

As far as ZBLL is concerned, it's going to be tough. Very tough. Especially recognizing the A/A, C/O/X, O/C/X, and O/O/X cases (I think one more is tough for me, though I can't remember it now. btw, I know two full COLL cases of ZBLL).

However, COLL + EPLL (the 2-Look ZBLL) is incredibly fast, as you can refine your PLLs down to 4 and have much less to recognize. 2 sides is easily enough to reconize the EPLL case, and all EPLLs are very fast. COLL is also very fast, and I can send you my alg doc for that and VHF2L if you want. Or just look at Jason's site, then find any algs you don't like and look at Dan Harris' site.

So my recomendation: learn partial edge control, then COLL + VHF2L, and then decide if you want to move on.

I honestly think you'll give up at ZBLL.
Most peple don't understand the magnitude of it. d:

Hear hear.

@ OP:

Stick to normal Fridrich. Learn it all. Find the best algs for you. Get ridiculously fast at them. Learn cases from other angles. Get ridiculously fast at them too.
That's the only LL system you really need.

Imo, it's only those that are prodigious at learning algs, and have the time, obsession and dedication to keep them in finger memory and fast should even begin to learn ZB. Congrats to Chris to going for it.

OLL has "perfect" recognition, PLL has "perfect" algs. OLL+PLL is a managabel amount of algs for "everyone" and is a 2 look last layer

Edge-Control + COLL + EPLL is a 2 look last layer but it requires additional effort (small though) for the F2L. Most people agree that COLL is harder to recognise than OLL and slower to execute than PLL. The only good thing about this is the EPLL and the intuitive part.

I am not saying EC+COLL+EPLL is bad, but OLL+PLL is better on average
