I will probably be applying for a YouTube partnership soon.

One of the checkboxes on the application is "I will allow YouTube to display ads in and/or next to my videos". From that, they share ad revenues with partners.
I don't really "need" the money, but I have no job over the school year, and steady (if small) cash source would be nice.

I'm interested in people's opinions on this. I personally don't like ads (none on my website), but that's the business model for the internet/Google, and I'm not too bothered by them on YouTube.

But more importantly, for those of you that are partners, do you have any suggestions?
I'm wondering how your choices about ads have impacted your channel/experience, and if you think its worth enabling.
If you've tried it, how much money does this actually make for you?

Also, specifically, do any of you know:
- Does this give them a right to put ads in-video/beside any of my videos they want? Do I get to pick which ones? Which types of ads (in-video vs. side)?
- Can I change my choice on this later, either direction?

from what ive seen, you can make a pretty good ammount of money from ads.

from the very first time you signed up for an account, youtube has owned your videos. they can place ads anywhere they want, but they are usually at the endof the video, before it, or on the side above your description box. im not a partner so i cant really help you much more

I make roughly 30-70 cents a day from ads on my videos, but I did not put ads on all of them... so I imagine the number could be higher.

You dont get to choose what kind of ads there will be (in video/ on the side, etc.)

I find the ads very annoying. The only reason I sometimes enable them is because I think it may affect the search ranking of the video. But It is just a theory. And if I knew for a fact that they don't, I would probably disable the ads on all of my videos. The few cents I gain from this are not worth the anguish of thousands of people all over the world.

70 cents a day will be build up quickly!

Well, it depends on what you you want/need the money for, but for the average cuber planning to buy more puzzles, it would come and handy. :)

i would agree ads arnt that big of a deal since you can just click the tiny x and get rid of them.
To be honest i dont think that anyone really cares about the ads, in my opinion if your making vids and are able to make money off it thats fine. however if your making vidsto get money off it your vids generally suck and thats not fine...

I'd say do it... sorta. I'm fine with the ads to the side above the description, but the pop ups during the video are annoying. I really don't mind them that much though.

I would say enable the ads. If its in video you just click the x and it goes away and if its on the side then who cares. Make a bit of money, they aren't that annoying and I don't think anyone will not watch your videos because of it. I'll still watch them. For a kid with out a job it would be nice to pocket an extra $100 at the end of the year

You can choose what videos to put ads on, they don't just all immediately appear on your videos automatically.

You can't choose the ads' content, I'm pretty sure the only input for ads you have is: to display live ads over the video and to display adsense ads over the video.

Once the ads are on the video I know of no way to remove them, unless they have copyright content then YT will remove the ads.

The money is nice though, it's a few months before you get your first payment, but then it should start to come in monthly.
