So, what is your main speedcube (for competitions) and what is your practice cube, and why (other than the fact that you don't want to wear out your competition cube)? I would like this discussion to include big cubes as well.

Format:

(Cube size): (competition cube), (practice cube(s))
(Explaination)

I'll start.

2x2: ES, ES
I only have one ES 2x2

3x3: Rubiks.com DIY, really good storebought/type a
I don't want to wear out my competiton cube, and my storebought never pops. I practice with a type a because it is my 2nd best cube.

4x4: ES, ES
I only have 1 ES 4x4 and rubik's brand 4x4's suck.

5x5: V5, V5
My rubik's 5x5 is broken and the V5 is the only other 5x5 I have.

6x6: V6
I only have one

7x7: V7
Again, I only have one

All of my v-cubes are black.

Well, im not that good but I use my storebought for practice and speedcubing. Occasionally if im just cubing for fun ill use my other storebought and not my better one but if its timed or something im using my best storebought.

Same with 4x4 and 2x2, i use my ES all the time.

I use the same cube for practice and competition, so that it "feels" the same for me. If it wears out, then I'll replace it with another one.

I've never been to a comp., so I'll exclude the comp. cube part.

2x2: ES
I only have one 2x2
3x3: White type a or d
I like white 3x3s
4x4: ES
Rubik's is horrible
5x5: V-Cube
Better than ES and rubik's, good size, cuts corners great
6x6: I don't have one
7x7: V-Cube

yeah i'm with bryan. i practice almost entirely with the cubes i'll use in competition. if i wear it out then i'll get a few more and see which one works out best.

that being said, i do have a backup for most events if there was a problem.

2x2: ES, ES
Only one ES 2x2

3x3 (speed): Type A with special lube, Type C/Other type A
I have many 3x3s...my Type A competition cube doesn't pop too often and is fairly loose...although I prefer a tighter cube.

3x3 (OH): Type C, Type A with Rubik's corners/type C
I love OH...I wish I had more time to practice...damn school

3x3 (BLD): Tight Type A/Tight Type A
Don't want any pops :\

4x4: ES, ES
I have one good one, the other is too loose...I'll probably get some more.

5x5: V5, V5
Only one V5

6x6: N/A
Don't have one.

7x7: N/A
Don't have one.

2x2: ES, ES
Four 2x2, but all but one suck (one ES that a friend used to want to buy, a good ES, a Rubik's, and a Rubik's Harry Potter [yeah... not really comp-legal])

3x3: Storebought core with storebought cubies from a different cube
I only have one 3x3 core; all the others are broken. My second-oldest set of cubies have the most wear, so I use them.

4x4: ES, ES
I have two Rubik's, but they're broken (1 center in each; I guess I could cobble them together, but I have an ES, so I'm not gonna)

5x5: V5, V5
I have a V5, so I'm not using my ES. Or my Rubik's with an X-center somewhere in Dan Dzoan's old Rubik's.

6x6: N/A
Don't have one.

7x7: V7
Explanation necessary?

2: Eastsheen 2x2, ES 2x2
Only have one.

3: Type A, Another type A with the best parts from three cubes.
I practice with a loose cube, so at comps I don't pop.

4: ES 4x4, ES 4x4
My Rubik's is great and all, but it just locks up too much on the other layers.

5: Vcube5, V5
The best. Only have one.

3oh: Really, really loose Type A.

6&7: V6&7
Duh?

Most of this is boring, but my 4x4x4 is a bit interesting, so I'll participate.

2x2x2: ES, ES
I have one good one and one not-so-good one, but I pretty much only use the good one except at competitions, when my daughters and I are competing at the same time. We can't all 3 compete at the same time, but 2 of us can go at once. Then it's whoever gets lucky enough to get the good cube gets it. :)

3x3x3: Type A, same Type A
I had a storebought I preferred for a while, but eventually the core got too flimsy, and I decided the Type A was the best of the others I had.

4x4x4: ES, a different ES
I have one REALLY good ES 4x4x4. I keep it on a shelf in my closet. I use another, sort of good ES 4x4x4 for practice - the one in the closet is a competition-only cube. Which means I fairly regularly get personal bests for both 4x4x4 and 4x4x4 BLD in competition. :D

5x5x5: V5, V5
6x6x6: V6, V6
7x7x7: V7, V7
I have 2 of each, but I really only use one of each (well, except when I'm trying 7x7x7 multi). The V6 is modded with the shaved down internal pieces and the two pieces glued to the core - it really helps!

Comp:

3x3: Joy cube

4x4: mefferts black I can't recognize the white.

5x5: V-cube pwnage

3x3 OH: Type D center/springs Type a core and store cubies

Practice:

3x3: Type D center/ springs Type a core and store cubies

4x4: white mefferts i hope i can get used to it being that it kicks ass

5x5: uhh v-cube durr

3x3 OH: Type D center/ springs Type a core and store cubies (it pops somewhat)

I'm not going to a competition any time soon, I'll probably have to buy another 4x4 for one.

2x2: White ES
I'd make a 3x3 into a 2x2 but I'm not really into 2x2

3x3: DS
smooth and doesn't pop

4x4: White ES
can't get a Meffert's 4x4 yet, but this is very good

5x5: White V-Cube
V-Cube > all other 5x5s

Square-1: White mf8
purchased with my DS from RubikFans, I wish the top and bottom faces were smoother
