Hello everybody. I'm Drizzit Dudden, I am a drow from Menzoberranzan and wield two scimitars... or maybe not.
In reality, I'm from Idaho in the US. I grew up milking cows, bucking hay bales and moving pipe (among other things on a farm), I went to school, graduated and am now in College starting my second year in a vocal Music degree with a minor in Spanish. This is just a stepping stone for me as I plan to go on to Graduate school in Linguistics (Phonetics to be more specific). Eventually I want to teach at a University so I'll have several more years before I get a PhD and can do that, but I love school. I love studying and I love learning.
I've been on this site for a while now just reading through everything and didn't get the urge to become a member until I saw the tread about how to pronounce Jessica Fridrich's name and decided that was something I could and wanted to reply to since I am planning on being a phonetician some day.
I got into cubing about two years ago when I was on a mission for my church. Before that I had never even played with a cube. It seems unbelieveable that as much as I love it it never came into my life until then. But anyway, I learned Matthew Monroe's corners first layer method and am still kind of stuck with it. I can average around 55 seconds, but I know that I can do better with a different method so I'm starting to learn the Fridrich but haven't gotten too far with schoolwork and everything.
I have a pretty good collection of puzzles. Eastsheen 2x2, 4x4, 5x5, Rubik's 3x3, 4x4, 5x5 (all of which i hate), Magic Cube 4x4 (same mechanism as eastsheen), V-cube 5x5, 6x6, 7x7, Pyraminx, Megaminx, Void Cube, Floppy Cube, Several different 3x3 DIY's from C4U, Mirror Blocks (my personal favorite), a lot of mini diansheng 3x3's that I have to give to people I teach when they express an interest in learning and there's probably something I forgot. I'm pretty slow with the 7x7, it generally takes around 20-30 minutes depending on how into it I am, but I really want to get better at the big cubes.
Bump cubes fascinate me for some reason. I love doing them blindfolded more than anything. I'm slow, but speed isn't always the most important thing. I think my long term goal is to just accumulate as many different puzzles as I can and be able to efficiently solve all of them. I need a job first though...
I currently have no girlfriend, but there's a certain one that I'm interested in; we'll see where it goes.
And other than that, I don't have too much else to say. I'm glad to be here and hope to learn a lot and make some friends.
