yong jun yj1102

I bumped into one of these two days ago in a local department store. I think it is identical to the one posted here, everything is in Chinese except yj1102.

It is topologically equivalent to a 3x3x3 - well mostly. The six sides are not identical. The top and bottom are equal (white and yellow) and just like the 3x3x3. The sides are 3x2 (2 columns). But one column can be thought as having two sides one belonging to the next side, which makes it equivalent to 3x3x3. I'll post a diagram later to explain what I mean by this.

1. Side face orientation needs to be taken into account when making the cross.

2. F2L is very cool on this cube.

3. Some PLL/OLL algorithms seems to mess up side face orientations, so I used the [almost] beginners method by using sune/anti-sune for OLL, as it rotates side face by equal amounts back and forth.

4. If a U permutation is done, one of the side faces gets disoriented by 90 degrees. So the trick is to apply the same U permutation four times! H perm is a disaster, so I used two U perms instead, which is 8 (4x2) algorithms!

The plastic of this cube is great. I love the crispy feel without any lube.

Here are some pictures that shows the solving the cross. The target here is to get a cube, not the windmill.

1. The Red center piece is aligned with the Red-White edge in the B layer, but their orientations don't match in terms of shape.

2. Now the Red center is properly aligned with Red-White edge. We just need an R2 to bring the Red-White edge to the U layer.

3. After an R2, one edge of the cross is done.

4. Cross completed. :-)

Continuing from the last post. We now have the white face in the B layer to do F2L.

1. Here is an easy F2L case. The trick is to think of long faces of cubies as two sub-faces (see arrows). The sub-face at the sharp end belongs to the adjacent side (red in this case), while the sub-face at the not-so-sharp end belongs to the color on it. For example, the 2nd and 4th arrows from left are "green" sub-faces, and the other two are considered "red". This is a simple F2L case: F U F', or y' R U R'.

2. Here is a similar case, but the "top" sub-faces (2nd and 3rd) are now at the not-so-sharp ends, so they are considered red. Not 2nd and 4th sub-faces like the last one. This is F2L case 8 in the Speedsolving wiki.

3. We are almost done with F2L, and here is another F2L case 8.

attachment.php

4. Done with F2L.

5. Going with 2-look OLL, we make the cross on the U face.

attachment.php

6. AUF, solve for Sune and we get to an actual Sune.

attachment.php

7. Solve the real Sune to finish OLL.

attachment.php

8. Locate a pair of headlights to do 2-look PLL. Notice that the arrows are pointed to sub-faces that make up the headlights, not to full faces.

attachment.php

9. Turn the cube to other side (y2) and we are going to apply an A-perm (l' U R' D2 R U' R' D2 R2).

attachment.php

10. A-perm applied, and all corners are now solved. Pointing arrows to real faces because both sub-faces of each big face are now solved.

attachment.php

11. We need an H-perm here, but I am going to do two U-perms instead to avoid side center faces from disorienting drastically.

attachment.php

12. After applying the first U-perm (R2 U R U R' U' R' U' R' U R'), the right center face is now disoriented by 90 degrees. However, the Yellow-Red edge is now in place as expected.

attachment.php

13. We apply the very same permutation three times. This brings back the U face to the same place, while fixing the disoriented left center face by rotating further 90x3=270 degrees.

attachment.php

14. Finally, apply four more identical U-perms to solve the three remaining edge pieces.
